Hello,

Looking for some help, the wife's car would not start last night and came up with "Have Power Steering Checked" error along with ABS error.

I have read that someone with an 07 GP changed a relay which resolved the issue but I am not sure which one this is.

Is there a simple way to check which one it is or does anyone know?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you say it would not start i would first look into that. because the other errors might just be a side-effect; they come on with a low charged battery.
That could mean an old dead/dieing battery, or a failed/failing alternator.

I would start with checking the charging system as the GP's have a reputation of failing alternators due to water.

A better explanation and the order of events can help us give you more pertinent answers.

Mine has just recently had this problem fixed, took it to fiat for diagnosis ONLY, cost me £36, found out that it is a failing alternator, I had the same issues as you, not starting, battery light always on, no power steering, 'check power steering' message and abs light on. got the alternator changed by one of the mechanics at work cost me £155 altogether and I haven't had any problems since. Fiat wanted over £300!!
Got my old alternator back when it had been fixed and found this..

Hope this helps

Had the starter out and got tested this morning all working fine, fuses and relays seem to be working, not sure how to check these without buying all new relays.

Got AA cover today so might just give them a call tomorrow.

Battery light hasn't been coming on but does that mean the battery is fine, read another forum that stated same issue's as I have and turned out to be dead battery.

Any other advise?

My battery light came on because I wasn't getting enough power from the alternator, it doesn't just come on because of a bad battery, could test a new battery to see if it's just that, i don't know what else to suggest mate

I have 2007 punto grande 1.4 sport, just had starting failure, with "Check Power Steering" battery looks good, is fully charged, tried jumper leads etc. all to no avail. rocked engine to check for jammed started, but it seems to be an electrical lockout of some sort. will check battery volts, then try disconnecting battery for a time.
any help appreciated.

problem solved. It was a broken engine earth wire. (between chassis and gearbox.) ah ah!
apparently this not only prevents the starter from being powered up, but also prevents the alternator from charging.
alternator not charging properly prevents power steering from being activated and also an effect on the ABS. hence the alarm display.
