I have an 09 Fiat Grande Punto 1.2 and yesterday I was faced with what I thought was a flat battery. I got a couple of my mates to give me a push and bumped the car into life with total ease and drove it home with no problems. As soon as I got home I realised that the car would not lock with the button on the key and then wouldn't start again, which made me think maybe my alternator was done.
This morning I went out and tried again to start my car, wouldn't open with the button on the key again and when I turn the key nothing happens at all under the bonnet and I get a load of random flickering of the dials and some totally random warning messages like airbag failure on the dash. I did realise however, that if I turn the key one click everything comes on after a bit of flickering, lights work, radio all the dash board lights up correctly, yet the central locking still won't work or the windows. So I checked the voltage across my battery and my multi-meter read 12.6v. I also tried sticking jump leads on from my step dads car and the same thing happened, ignition turned on after a few seconds but when I turn the key to start the car just a load of flickering dials and random lights. Which must rule out the battery? This time my step dad was listening under the bonnet and noticed a load of clicking, arcing sort of sounds coming from the fuse box right of the battery. I've had a read in a few forums and found a few vaguely similar problems and they were suggesting checking the earths and trying putting a jump lead to the negative battery terminal and attach that to some part of the chasis. Still nothing at all.
Hope someone can help me out with this before I take it to a garage, I've tried to get as much information in as I can but ask me if I've missed anything, cheers!
