Hello all,

I am hoping someone here can back up my diagnoses of my sisters 1.2 Grande Punto. It is an 06 plate with a 5 speed gearbox and has only done 60'000 miles.

When driving she hears a constant rumble from under the car towards the passenger side of the center.

I got under the car and rocked the passenger side driveshaft. There is noticable movement on the inner CVjoint Cup that is attached to the gearbox and I can rock it from side to side. There is no play in any of the CV joints themselves.

I suspect that this is a failure of the Diff bearings, although there is no leaking oil so i suspect the seals are ok.

Could anyone please confirm if this diagnoses is correct?

Thanks :)

The replacement gearbox has arrived. £275 from puntoshop on Ebay.

I see the gears in the diff can be moved and pivoted around. I imagine this would show some movement of the cups on the diff but surely no where near as much as i could feel.
