So i decided i was going to have a bash at changing my oil on my 1.4 8v punto on the weekend, got the car up and crawled underneath with my 12mm hex socket but to my surprise the sump plug would not budge... not even a little.

So i tried knocking it with an hammer but with no luck. I really need to change the oil on my car and don't know what i can do to loosen the sump plug.

Anyone come across this and have any tips or suggestions for me?

Thanks in advance.

Its 2007 so 7 years old.. is it easy to replace and fit? mine hasnt started to bend as of yet so trying not to go to mental on it lol... just wish there was a way to loosen the plug :/

Mine is a 2006 model, try plugas as said but if you have to replace it, its a medium difficulty job id say, just make sure the instant gasket sets and that before you use it

Thanks :) will defo get some and give it a go!

Completely off topic, but i was driving to work this morning, cruising along at about 40mph and my car juddered and all the lights on the dash came on for like a second and then it flashed that the "Excessive radiator fluid Temprature" the temp needle went to max for like two seconds but then everything returned to normal after that...

Does anyone know what could of caused this??

I would say its more than a software glitch Chris the excess temp warning is commonly a software issue but this didn't throw on all warning lights.....

the fact the car juddered before it did it would suggest its loosing voltage (the ecu would be getting some strange signals from the sensors due to low voltage) at some point in its system,,, and when moving in my eyes points to the Earth strap between the battery , chassis and gear box been corroded internally (usually at the chassis leg crimp..) .... It could also be the battery or Alternator

but i will stick my neck out and guess blindly at the earth strap been broken inside its sheath simple enough to check by removing it and seeing if its green where its crimped rather than bright copper colour but ensure you can get a spare from your local dealer before you remove it as if its dead its highly likely it will snap ....

the GP is a one piece cable between the battery , chassis and gear box but this guide should show you the sort of thing to look out for.. (from a fiat 500)

(ps dont shout at me if im wrong) ;)

I just had the same issue on my Mk2 punto, the sump plug wouldnt budge!

So i stuck my wheel wrench from the boot onto the end of my ratchet for some more torque and after a few good pushes it finally came undone
