Technical Alternator

Technical Alternator

Right as some of you will know Dubster's got through 6 or 7 Alternators in the space of 2 years.

Now before I had the RTC in January 2012 Dubster ran fine, I can't seem to understand what the problem actually is.

I've had Billy (friend of ours who's a mechanic) have a look at Dubster, he found a small leak under the washer jets & fixed that, but it's still not cured the actual problem.

I have a 6.5" Hose on at the windscreen drain point which was fitted by Bridgend & I know it's a genuine part as one of my contacts on Facebook works for Abarth. He can't understand why my car keeps blowing Alternators.

I phoned an Auto Electrics company in Kilwinning, but he can't look at Dubster until Thursday & when I explained about the RTC I'd had 2 years ago & told him where the damage was & who did the repair, he said that he suspects it could be a bad wire.

Now I can't keep paying out £94.30+VAT through TMS for a Denso Alternator (Part number DAN998) if 2 or 3 months down the line the Alternator goes again.

I can't see it being my Sound System as that was fitted by Audiowise EK, who I've known for 6years.

I'm completely clueless as to what's causing the failures of the Alternators, so any help would be appreciated

You dont want to believe its your sound system - but your not willing to test it?

I take it you have a large boom box in the boot?
If so - disconnect that and run without it for a while

Remember - while an engine is running the subwoofer will be running off that - NOT the battery as such

So if your alternator is having to work at 110% all the time because of the huge suddens pikes every second, no wonder it blows it alot

Again - if you dont, its worth a try

But for an alternator to die - it sounds like its getting an incorrect feed and as a result its either burning it slowly over the 2 to 3 months
or its sat doing something when it shouldnt be

What sort of power are your amp(s) drawing? A regular sub with one amplifier won't kill an alternator. Sure if you have 4 amplifiers in there then you'll probably need to upgrade the electrics but not for just 1.

I have 1 small 2 channel Amp, can't remember the exact make or model, but I had it in my old car which was a Seicento Sporting & it was fine in that.

I have a 12" Hertz Sub, did have a 10" but the coils burnt out on that.

The work was carried out by Audiowise EK

I will be phoning them in the morning & speak to Alan about it
And on Thursday morning popping up to AJ Autolec in Kilwinning as they specialize in Alternators.

There's no way that amp will be going through alternators in that amount of time unless something was installed wrong but I can't see how that would knackered an alternator.

Managed to find out from an old thread in the Cinquecento/ Seicento bit.

The Amp is a Hertz EP2, kept on low bass.
I have 2 6" Alpine Front Speakers, 6 6"x9" JBL GTO998 Speakers in the parcel shelf & a Hertz 12" Sub in the boot.
