I had my clutch replaced 3 weeks ago. Two days ago my drive shaft went. Does anyone think there could be a connection? Don't want to get scammed by the garage! Surely they should have seen if there was likely to be any problem when they removed it to fit the clutch(?)

That is a difficult question ,you paid for a new clutch which they did..Qestion is ,did they damage the drive shaft, was the failure something they should have noticed..is it a coincidence ??? In the long run you have to be able to prove it,and that is he difficult part...There is nothing wrong in approaching them about the issue ,but you will more than likely be fobbed off ..Being in the trade you can get coincidences such as what you have..But as I said earlier it's being able to prove the garage has caused the issue..Some mechanics will accidently damage an item and stay quiet hoping to get away wth it ..Also you may get the attitude of we where only paid to fit a cultch ,obviously common sense should dictate that they report any other faults / defects that they find whilst replacing the clutch ,Though they may say "was ok when it left here " Then again they may be ok about it ..Hope some of what I said helps

Thanks. That sort of confirms my own thoughts. Will give it a try but am expecting to be fobbed off. Won't use that garage again though as will have no confidence any more.

Result! Garage accept they are responsible so fixing free of charge under the guarantee for the work to replace my clutch. Big relief.

Really good news Bunty.normally you have to keep on and on and if you are lucky they might accept responsibility.Good on you.lets hope you will have trouble free motoring after it has been done.:)

Bunty

did they say how they managed to damage the drive shaft while changing the clutch?

Nice to see they owned up to it though, might be a garage worth sticking with, yes they clearly made a mistake but if they're willing to sort it when a lot of garages would play ignorance good on them eh!

I didn't even need to ask! Not a clue what went wrong on the clutch job. Should get car back later today but don't know if they will tell me what they did wrong. When I spoke to them before they said they would fix because it was in an area they had worked on. Think that counts as an admission they did something, but not sure I would understand if they gave me a full technical answer. Have learned a lot more about cars this week than in the last 25 years! (Still know nothing...)
Thanks for your support guys. Great to know there are people out there if I have issues again.
