Its a fiat and your 4th owner....could be coming from any orifice to be honest, get it checked at bodyshop is your best chance of finding the leak,

Haha yeah, I don't know where to start.

Think there's also a leak into the boot now! (not the rear washer hose, as although that was split and leaking, I've disconnected it at the washer bottle end as the rear is de-wipered anyhu)

Tempted to just replace all the bloody window seals now, be a bit costly though!

What methods do bodyshops use? And any rough idea of cost, as much as I'd like to let someone else sort it I'm a poor student haha.

Or from door as no garage especially dealerships refit the weathersheetm membrane behind the door card after changing regulator or door lock etc.

Many Fiat cars suffer from poor sealant application around bulkheads, it's not uncommon at all.

So, it just started pouring it down so I jumped in the old sieve and sure enough the water is coming from between the door card and the door itself, right below the speaker area.

It's still to wet to go taking the door card off so that's the next step when it brightens up a bit (Wales eh?) is to take the door card out.

Before I do, do you think it will be coming in through the window seal into the door?

Water naturally runs down the inside of the door as there are (unblocked?) drain holes at bottom of door skin? What stops it overflowing (especially if drains are blocked) into the car is the white foam' membrane. Why dont you remove the long kick panel trim and if it is coming from door you will definitely see it coming in.

Ah so water inside the door is no problem, so long as it drains well?

I've taken the kick panel off so I can actually see it dripping from between the door card and the metal of the door itself, running down where the kick panel should be and underneath where my carpet would be.

No wonder it was went in there, it was puddling up in there in just a few minutes of rain!

Right, found it!

So basically, water is coming in through the bottom of the window and rather than drain out the bottom of the door it's dripping onto the back of my (new and expensive :( )speakers, tracking under the speaker and through the hole it's mounted in!

So I've taken the speakers out for now to save further damage and wetness.

Now I need to figure out a solution, any ideas guys?

I think basically I either need some kind of protection over the speakers or to mount them more inboard so they don't get dripped on.

1 Buy wellies!,
2 Make sure the drain holes in the bottom of the doors are clear,
3 If the white foam covering is missing/torn make up another and attach it.
4 Move to sunny and dry climate.
Only joking 1&4!

The drain holes are clear but that's not the issue, it's dripping onto the speakers which fit a lot further into the door than the standard speakers.

The white foam is intact but cut around the speakers, not sure if this is normal or not but even if it went around the back of the speakers it isn't waterproof so wouldn't help really.

I'm more worried about protecting my speakers now (I've taken them out but can't live without my music for long :p ).

Someone else must have come across this when fitting speakers in their punto?

If the rain water is getting in because of the fitting of the speakers try making a "shroud" that fits over the inside of the speaker and deflects any water away so it can drain out the bottom of the doors.

I did some research regarding this last night and there are a few options available but mostly in America, struggling to find anything in the UK.

I'll nip into the local car audio shop later and see if they have any ideas, if not I'll bodge something up myself.

Glad I've find the issue now, just hope my speakers aren't going to die a premature death!

Thanks for the help guys, much appreciated!

This happened to the Alfa Mito we had!

The carpets turned dank and mouldy with black mould growing. The windscreen was replaced twice. The brake servo on the bulkhead had rusted through, and the air con drain pipe was not connected.

The smell never goes and that car was gotten rid of because of the water.
