Hello Fellow Fiat owners, this is my first post.
I've been reading the forums for about 3 months now and it ultimately led me to buy my first car a Fiat Grande Punto Eleganza 1.4 8v 5Dr

I've done a few modifications, which i'll post once i understand how the forum work later on, been recording everything with pictures :)

BUT! back to the main point of the thread, a K&N INDUCTION KIT 57i for my GP, thoughts?

A. Is it worth installing one?
B. Does it effect Insurance?
C. Benefits?
D. Negatives?

I want my car to sound a bit meaner and this seems to be an ideal addition so far.
Also I'd like to fit everything my self :)

Thanks - Alex

I wouldn't bother with one mate, a k&n panel filter would do a much better job
Do you know if that'd effect insurance aswell?
Ideally want to avoid my insurance going up. costing me £1.5k for my first year (21 years old)

More than likely, and that's a bit steep, I'm 17 and I'm 1300 a year fully comp with mods declaired
Might have to have a rethink about the K&N Induction kit and look at the panel filter instead.

My car fell into insurance category 13, but i do live in a pretty pricey insurance area so its always significantly higher unfortunately :(
I'm fully comp & declaring it for business use as-well & estimated 10k miles. Was the cheapest quote i could find! I'm with Aviva.

You can't be the main driver + policy holder then, since I'm 2000 ;)

To the op, I had a k&n57i, once I learnt a bit more about air intakes I realised it's a complete waste of time, you lose all of your overtaking and acceleration power (what little that the small petrol gp's have,) for £100 for a filter that sits right on top of your engine bay sucking up all that warm air it's pointless.

It does sound nice though, if you want sound without losing preformance get a k&n panel filter and drill some holes in the pre filter side of your airbox,

for small gains in power get a gsr induction kit from torque7 roughly the end of this month, that also sounds good too

I am haha! Just managed to get it really cheap, without telematics

I'm the main policy holder on mine with 1 parent as a named driver with 23 years no claims but still i get abused on insurance :(

But back to the K&N INDUCTION KIT 57i is it worth getting the Panel filter?

K&N 33-2931 ( I couldn't post a link since I'm still a nooby on the forums )

Can't say I'm keen on the idea of "drill some holes in the pre filter side of your airbox" seems a bit crazy, does the panel filter provide any extra noise without any loss of power/acceleration? Because K&N seem pretty confident on the product.

Its how i did it for my first year, could not afford 3000 to insure a car worth 1200, and there was no issues when claiming

I don't blame you really, I'm glad km main driver though with the amount of stick I get from police

The K and n 57i will literally take away power, you can plant your foot flat down and nothing will happen, literally. It makes the car undrivable imho

And it's not a bad thing, your airbox is just a plastic box, drilling a few holes will actually make it sound nice, I can post a pic of my airbox if you want, I have a drilled airbox while I wait for a gsr

The panel filter won't really make the car faster and will only make it sound very slightly louder, but in combination with holes it would sound quite good (that's my setup atm, the k and n panel filter and holes)

I'd get a gsr if you can afford one sounds good and gives a little extra power

Regarding resale in the future won't the new potential buyer surely pick up on holes in my airbox? Also surely this has a potential to fail an MOT?
But please do post a picture so i can see the size of the holes :)

You'll have to excuse my complete lack of knowledge here but whats a GSR do? I've managed to come across BMC air filters now?

I'm also under the presumption all these extra's will effect my insurance..
