Hi!

Last night on the way back I had an error message crop up saying 'check running lights' with an amber exclamation mark in a triangle warning light on the dash board. The warning light only comes on when my lights are switched on and I'm braking.. Having had a quick search around I can't really find a definite answer to what I should be looking for to fix this issue!

I've checked all my lights, including brake lights, and I can't find one that's not on..

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what could be causing this and/or what tests I could do to help find out what's wrong!

Many thanks!

Rob

Running lights are the side lights. Usually the rear. There are two the middle one and the lower one which lights up brighter when breaking. Check the connectors as well as mine were rusting so needed to clean them as it was providing a dodgy connection from the car to the lights. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that. I don't have LED sidelights!

With headlights on, and braking, both of the middle bulbs, of the rear 3 bulbs, do not light up?

Should these not be on!???

Thanks again!

Right! Are those middle bulbs just the standard GP sidelight bulbs?

The rear clusters have 2 side lights on each cluster one of the 2 bulbs is a dual filament bulb......

If it comes up when brakes are on as well my first job would be to replace both combined stop and tail bulbs I've seen this a few times on here one of the dual filaments can break and drop and attach itself to the other circuit causing a short this is the bulb iirc

As you can see they are much cheaper than halfords or the like on line

Whilst in there clean all the contacts with contact cleaner

Have you checked your number plate lights are working?

Thanks for the info! Yeah my number plate lights are working :)

I'll try what you have suggested!

Below is a pic of what the lights look like without braking, just fir comparison :)

Thanks again!

The middle segments should be lit also get 2 side light bulbs see the guides section can't remember but I'm 99% sure these are the ones

Okay, thanks very much for all that!

I've ordered replacement bulbs :)

If this doesn't fix the issue, is it possible that a fuse or something may be responsible?

Thanks!
