Hey guys really need some help here..

Ill start from the beginning, got myself a grande punto t-jet 57 plate.. it was standard when I purchased it and was running fine with no problems, I put the abarth turbo on it and had it remapped around a month later, all was good until about 4 days later when I started to notice performance was going down hill daily, a week later I found a boost leak (big split that was getting bigger) had that fixed and it was running better than ever for a few days. I was out on a drive and accelerated quite heavily (as you do :D) when the car suddenly brought up the ecu and traction control light, the car went into limp mode and had tp disconnect the battery to reset it, ever since it has been doing the same thing as and when it feels like it :( sometimes limp mode is that bad I cant get past 5mph! Iv had it on diagnostics and all that comes up is throttle pedal position sensor. Iv replaced this and its still doing it and still saying throttle position sensor :s its been like this a year now nobody seems to have a clue! Could it have been mapped with a boost leak and now be over boosting? Any help is MUCH appreciated guys

Thanks

Last time we checked all the vacuum hoses etc was fine but ill double check :) seems strange it keeps throwing up the throttle pedal position sensor as the fault, thanks for the help :)

You do realise it is that circuit??! Might not be the sensor, it could simply be the wiring or a connector.

Its definately worth a really good look, i had a tiny split in one of mine that was only noticable when looking under the bonnet with the car at high revs.

It caused all sorts of unrelated warning lights and cost nothing to fix

Got my fingers crossed with this one now :) haha ill keep this thread updated incase anyone has a similar issue, thanks again buddy

Sorry to bring up an old thread but im having exaclty the same issue at the moment cant seem to fix it, changed everything, it fixes for a day, sometimes a week then does it again when it pleases! Any help much apprecieated dont know what to try!

Hi Jon and welcome on board,

originally the 1.4 Tjet has a wastegated turbo, I'm pretty sure the Abarth uses the same technique to "regulate" the turbo boost. Seems like you're exceeding the Limp mode threshold when down-footing the car. How did you get the error code ? Some cheap readers have ironic or even incorrect messages; best way would be to compare the desired vs delivered boost pressure together with the turbo (wastegate) actuator signal ; From there we should be able to narrow-down the possibilities. Definitely need to invest in a MES + eOBD interface...

Regards, Bernie

Had a bad week, went to set off and the car died, turns out its been the woodroof key ripping itself apart putting it in limp mode, so put it in the garage and had the bottom pully replaced, had it all timed up and it had a missfire, so I had it stripped down and all the valves checked which turned out to be fine, so built it back up new headgasket and bolts, so replaced the full timing belt kit and waterpump, plugs, coilpacks, every sensor I could find on the engine, still the same, its gradually got worse as ive been trying to start it to read codes and things, ive not driven it at all and now it turns over but will not start at all, had a auto electrician plug it in and hes diagnosed it as the ECU he said its broken down and now its given up, so ive got a full ecu, engine ecu, clocks, lockset, transponder and key on its way so maybe ill get somewhere then!
