so im thinking of getting the grande punto 1.9 mjet diesel but is their much you can do to upgrade the engine apart from just a remap and any advice on them that i should be weary of? thanks.

Get the tjet

Id be weary of erm every component surrounding the block, the engine seems strong, nothing else is

The gearbox is the main thing to watch and, like any diesel, the clutch and flywheel can be expensive. Egr valves can clog also.

If you are not a high milage driver the t-jet is a far better bet.

IF you do decide to go for an mjet (even though i'd take a tjet anyday!) Try get the updated 1.6, same power more fuel efficient

In regards to the comments about the gearbox if the mjets is anything like the 1.2's gearbox then don't bother

To answer your actual question however, you could upgrade your exhaust system, intake, even get an uprated turbo and remap, probs get you like 170 odd bhp, i've seen one at 190 before however.

If you don't do a lot of miles get the t-jet over the m-jet. It's just more fun to drive

But if you do high milage get the m-jet. There isn't a big difference between the two, the m-jet is a bit heavier and slower off the line that's about it. Oh and it sounds like a tractor

yh i know the t-jet would be more fun but not meny people do the m-jet plus they are more powerful when there modded properly than the t-jet

It's not all about what other people have, as far as most people will be concerned, you will just have a punto

And I'd disagree with the last part of your reply but each to their own IF power is the main concern I wouldn't go for a diesel punto

if you remap them both the bhp the same but diesel has more torque
but il look into the t-jet

Have to admit I would also prefer the tjet simply because it doesn't sound like a taxi

Avoid 1.9 mjet mine cost me £5500 from 34k to 52k serviced every 5000miles, people have had better luck dont get me wrong but i really really wouldnt recommend if i was to do it again tjet
