Hi,

I have read through countless posts on cruise control issues both here on the fiat forum and elsewhere and can't find a solution to my problem.

Basically I have a 2008 grande punto sporting with factory cruise control. However, since I bought it second hand it the cruise control hasn't worked.

The switch works and lights up the dash, then i hold in the CC+ switch and still nothing happens, even at high speed in 5th and 6th. I have multi ECU scan and the right cables so I tested all the lights and read the signals from the stalk, all of which worked. I even read the clutch and brake switches and they functioned as normal.

In a last ditch attempt I reset the self learning features on the bcu and ran proxy alignment. Still nothing!

I'm completely stumped as to why it's not working. Has anyone got any ideas about where else I can look to diagnose it?

Thanks,
Shannon

Are you sure you are operating it correctly? I'm asking this since you stated that it has never worked since you bought it.

Other than what you have checked already, i would check that the stalk itself is not damaged and that it is clean inside. When interiors are not well taken care of, the electric controls tend to sort of gum up and hinder operation.

As far as I know I'm operating it correctly:
Get above 50km/h or 30mph
Switch the cruise control on
Hold the speed + lever for about 3 seconds

Is this correct? Interior seems fine, There's a possibility that the car might have been in a crash before I bought it, but as far as I know the cruise control runs straight from the BCU to the existing throttle setup rather than a separate cruise control unit?

I'm going to have another stab at this in the next few days.
Does anyone know the resistance/current that should be running through any of the sensors/switches that I can test?

I know I can monitor a few of the currents in MultiECUScan, I also have a multi-meter I can use.

1. I'm looking for sensor and switch ratings such as the cruise control stalk and the current in the clutch/break switches?

2. How many brake switches should there be? (2008 S2 1.9 Sporting)

3. Finally, can anyone advise on how I can reach the clutch switch without removing the pedal box? The diagram attached suggests that it's very difficult to get at (The switch is item number 1).

Thanks for all the help and hopefully someone knows some of these answers!

Shannon

Yet another update on this. I get I'm the only one in this thread but it might help someone down the line :)

Anyway, I haven't had the chance to get into the resistance/current of the switches yet but I did make a break through finding that cruise control is actually working in third gear, but only third gear.

This is making me think that the gear sensor may have failed, I'm not sure how this is done but there is a parameter in MultiECUScan which shows the current gear so I'm going to have a play around in the next couple of days.

Hopefully this is the cause.

After plugging it in today and going for a drive I have found that it is indeed the gears that are the issue. The ECU only seems to pick up 1st and 3rd gears.

To my understanding the ECU chooses the gear through RPM/Road speed. Is this correct? Would this suggest that the RPM or road speed is being read wrong?

I don't seem to have any clutch issues and the speed looks to be read correctly in MultiECUScan.

Can anybody help with this new piece of information? I also have the fault code:
U0405 - Cruise Control Module Signal. But I don't know what significance this has as there is no help on it.

Just one final thing:
I noticed that the Operating Time on the ECU is 150,000 minutes, which is about 3.5 months. The parameters say the the ECU hasn't been re-programmed, however I think it might have been either re-mapped or replaced. Is there any way I can tell if it has been either re-mapped or replaced?

I have the exact same problem, you can find my thread and video here https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto/340296-cruise-control-doesnt-work-cant-turn-off-video.html
Have you found a solution?

I'm also wondering if you found a solution to your cruise issues. I'm having a similar problem but for me its only 5th gear that doesn't work...
