If they're custom it'd be interesting to find out if they're 'E' marked or type approved. I suspect they're not, and if so they'll be illegal to use - and potentially invalidate your insurance.

Sorry to burst your bubble, as even I've taken a liking to them and I haven't even got a GP.

@panda, you could argue technicalities on this. I have looked into it and the "projector" part of the headlight comes from the OEM parts used in Mercs, Porsche, etc. etc. Since the projector is part of an OEM headlight in these other vehicles, the lensing will be correct and certainly the correct way to go HID's as opposed to the after market kits expected to be plugged into any headlamp.

As far as CE approvals etc. the biggest challenge is getting the projectors aligned with each other. Since the fixing points in the headlamp unit of the GP don't accommodate the projector assembly by design, a level of lens alignment needs to be carried out by the builder before the headlamp unit is sealed back up. Assuming this process has been carried out correctly, then the lamps just need adjusting when on the car and if the mod has been carried out in a manner in which it allows the rear axle load adjuster to still work, then I can't see how this solution can be "quantified" by anyone as illegal (although technically you can argue that it is), especially compared with half the ****e that's on the road today using HID's with no projectors.

Humour

Don't mean to sound cheeky here , but surely the guys company would have been shut down down if they weren't road legal lights ?

As above. It's not illegal for the seller to sell them so why would they be shut down. They may be perfectly legal to use in another country. It's not the sellers requirement to make sure they're used legally that's the buyers responsibility.

You may well find the boxes marked as off road / show use only.

It is a technicality, but one that could have devastating consequences when it comes to insurance etc.
