GRANDE PUNTO

Hi
Thinking of making a few simple mods i.e new grill, vinyl behind the number plate, window tints and possibly some alloys instead if awful hubcaps
Was just wondering do i need to tell my insurer about them? (im with direct line)
Also what mods can i make that i don't need to tell insurer about?
And lastly what happens if i don't tell them about anything?

Thanks
Angus

Anything you do to the car that is not standard and how it left the factory you must declare.

Dont give the insurance company any excuse not to pay out in the event of an accident.

Hi,
If you need any assistance with insurance then please feel free to drop me a line.
Regards,
Dan.

Don't tell them, and you're not insured as it will be voided by most. When I had my GP, I was originally with LV when I started modding it. They refused to allow any alteration, so I cancelled and went with Chris Knott who were happy with all things I wanted. Pleased to say I'm still with them years later as they will always price match my cheapest quotes, although I'm past the modding phase now :O So definitely check as your insurer may not even allow mods, let alone charge extra for them.

A new grill, vinyl, window tints are fine, they would be cosmetic only, no need to tell them.
Alloys, yes, if they're standard fiat alloys, then you could get away with it, for example if you have a 1.2, getting fiat OEM 15's would be fine IMO. If you get aftermarkets or larger then you should tell them, cost me extra £70 with admiral and they're not covered, that's just the price to have them on ;)

As for other mods there is hundreds, colouring the wing mirrors, door handles, air filter change, new stereo, can't think of much more.

It's mostly mods that alter the performance or handling of the car you need to worry about, lowering, bigger alloys, air intake modifications and stuff like that.

Anything other than that you should be fine

Wrong wrong wrong, if you put anything on that car that wasnt there when it left the factory IT IS a modification, regardless wether or not fiat actually made said parts optional extras shouldnt cost more but need to be mentikned, tinted windows is the most important thing to tell them!!!

Advisor: how can i help?
You: ive had a crash
Advisor: oh sorry to hear that any mods
You: yes just tinted windows
Advisor: oh you couldnt see out the window, your fault, void!

Just dont mod your car if u want to be insured, the moment you have an accident regardless of fault your not covered, same with police your theoretically driving with no insurance!!

So will a mesh grill affect my insurance?
Don't understand why it would

So so wrong! No offense, but you haven't a clue!

Potentially, only YOUR insurance company can advise this though, so you need to call them.

Regarding you not understanding, insurance risk calculations and premiums are based upon hundreds of factors. Changing a grille can affect a cars crash signature, or cost or repair etc, and that's just the tip of the ice berg.

Here in Malta it's a totally different story.. Anything short of an Engine/Colour change is not considered a mod. I went to speak to them when I did an LPG Conversion and they were puzzled to say the least.
In the end I convinced them to keep a copy of the altered registration certificate so that I would have officially informed them that my car was now dual-fuel.

I'd just love to go to them with a list of mods (like car lowering, sprayed grills etc) and see what they make out of it!
