Technical Battery Draining / GP Not Starting

Hi mate,

My advice re batteries is shop around (obviously depending on how desperate you are).

I normally use Bosch s4 or s5 where I can.

:yeathat: basically.

eBay would you credit can do some good batteries even when postage is taken into account.

What physical size battery will your GP require?

Ah well, :) Invoice found from Eurocarparts so took it back paid a little extra for a Bosch S4 012 instead of 202 and job is a good one. A little bit of mechanics outside of Eurocarparts in my lunch hour gave it a few mins before cranking it over and walla the car started no problem at all. So for £14.51 I have a more superior battery than what I had earlier so fingers crossed all please lol.

Also the car sounds quieter it this possible or just imagination?

Many thanks to everyone for their input in helping me with this problem.

Kind Regards
Stephen

Hi,

Result (y) glad you've sorted it!

Its possible it may be a little quieter as the alternator wont be working as hard with a fully functioning battery as it would have been with a duff one.

Alan.

I have to say Eurocarparts were brilliant today :D mate, they also currently have a sale on mate (y)

shes not here tonight so whilst the car is stood im going to run her battery down to about 50% charge (wont take long sat on the drive with the lights heated screen and fan on) and stick it on a pulse charge over night

its either that or her map sensor / throttle body playing up need it on FES really

If you were closer by mate I would pop round with the laptop and leads mate and you could have a look. (I bet you are about to respond saying you have FES) LOL.

Probably is nothing but it has just come to mind, I have a terrible habit of pressing the central locking button on my keyfob to check the car is locked this surely wouldn't be enough to do any damage to the battery could it?

Been looking through all the electronics on the car today and I have came across one electrical that I thought was hooked up correct, it seems as though it is still running once the engine is off could this be due to me not ensuring a good earth?

Ok so I have pulled the fuse out, and although the fuse is working and the small Z wire in the blade fuse is not broking it looks a little corroded inside.

Any thoughts on this, I only came across this by chance tbh.

Regards
Stephen

I have taken a pic of the fuse as it appears to have white stuff seeping out of the top of it and it has also ran down and now dried on one of the metal spades:

Could this or a bad earth be causing a drain?

Sounds like corission, so should have been damp at some point.

What's the circuit that's still running when the engine is off? Just because the engine is off doesn't mean all of the electrics shut down all at the same time.

Subwoofer mate. Took some readings from the battery earlier I got as follow;

Car Idle (not switched on) 12.40v
Car on (ignition at MAR) 12.02v
Car fully cranked and running 14.02v

Also these figures did not change with the sub fuse in or out?

Going to fit a relay and switch to it anyways as recommended by Andy Monty :D
