hi, ive just joinned but dont seem to be able to post a question ... my 2006 1.2 GP is gone mad dont start, then starts , engine only turns off when reverse is engaged, now no accelerator etc etc aahhahahhhahahahh help

first check i would do is ensure the engine fuse box is dry and not damp inside...

thanks andy, its great to know i reached someone. i replaced the battery 2 months ago after returning from a 3week holiday i twas dead. then on the night of the big storm(late october) dead but started with a push, then ok for a few weeks then, again nothing, just very low clicking sounds - not from the starter- then padlock light on . changed fob key battery, nothing cleaned earth leads. started 2 days later same thing. put battery on charge over night, same thing but after fiddling with fuses and relays- started. then same thing again but now the engine light is on, then it wont turn off, i put it in reverse and it turns off. now it starts with reverse engaged only padlock gone but engine light on, i drive up the road and suddenly lose all power i press the gas and nothing engine just ticks over. then it came back to life. now its in my drive. i love the car but bloody hell!!!!

ok, left battery earth cable disconnected over night, tried to start this morning - nothing just tiny noises from within dash. put it in reverse with clutch down - bang starts first time. engine light on and a misfire / hesitation on revs as it comes down to 1500. so battery and earth ok. How on earth does having a car in reverse gear with clutch down have to do with starting/not starting????

ok so this morning would not start then i put headlights on and it started ahahahahah!!!!!!

O.K. so the fuse box is bone dry

and they keycode / immob light goes out EVERY time..??,

I suspect you've lost an earth connection somewhere..but we will need more info.

you have a major issue with the earth from engine to body
get one on soonest or it will self combust

well i can check that but doubt it as the car starts fine with plenty of power in turning over. I will also take the fuse box out and clean it. It does not close properly and i can see residue of blue in some fuses. The padlock is now not staying on. But like i said the symptoms it has had are different each time and it solves it self but i dont know how?? its scary cos i dont know if it will happen in a dangerous place on the highway.

as you wish but its no different from mini choke cables glowing red because of the same problem a long long time ag ho

ok history
1.car bought in july13-battery appeared dead on return from 4week holiday replaced with 390amp in september
2.night of big storm late october did not start no dash lights bump started.
3.end of november same problem this time padlock light on changed keyfob battery, nothing, checked battery leads fuses etc then eventually started.
4. a couple of weeks later same problem jumped started ok then it really started to play up, padlock on, funny baby gurgling noises under the dash, i checked battery, connections, fuses relays in and out, ignition switch. it would then just start, once after turning the steering wheel while stationary, another when put into reverse, then it would turn off but it would if in reverse, then it lost power so zero acceleration just ticking over, then engine light on, disconnected ecu and left it off for 15m then connected again. the last one was today did not start- padlock ON - then when i tried various switches it started upon putting driving lights on and off. I also noticed that a display light on the stereo on/off button did not usually stay on but the last couple of days it did, this morning it went off now its on again (its not the fiat stereo).
so now it starts everything works, no padlock light on but engine light on, the airbag light has always been on since i got the car and the radio light on on/off switch is on but radio is off.
Anyone has had a similar experience?? Please no Taken over by Aliens suggestions thanks Ric
