Hi,

This morning a ran into a pothole and after a couple of seconds of hitting the pothole the steering froze and it gave the check power steering light I stopped it and started it again and power steering came back to normal. What could the issue be?

Regards,
Et

Check the big blue fuse under black box cover in the engine bay on right near battery it may of blown if not then try this start car up and let it run then take fuse out while running then put it back in again and it should hopefully reset unless the motor is damaged from shock

Hi,

After hitting the pothole and I switched off the engine left it for a couple of seconds and started it up again the issue till now stopped. I did tests like driving with City on, Turing the steering completely to the left then completely to the right with no issues was so even.

What do you think could be the issue?

Thanks
Etienne

Could it be that hitting the pothole caused a very rapid change in the front wheel steer angle, the pas ecu thought 'that can't be right, must be a dodgy sensor, I'll throw an error'? It is common for electronic control systems to have an input sanity check like that, it helps them spot faults.

I think the jolt confused the ECU like jameshobiecat suggested. I remember the first time I drove my 500 on snow, manoeuvring out of a parking space at low speed, the lack of friction made the steering very light, which confused the ECU to the point that it turned off the pas and displayed an error message. It was okay once I turned the ignition of and on again and didn't occur again during normal driving.

Never had that issue in any car with EPS that I've driven in the snow. If it was just after a cold start I'd have said more chances it was battery voltage related.

If it were that common in these sorts of situations you'd be hearing about it a lot more often also I'd have said.
