Just thought I'd share a little story of mine from a day or 2 ago.

So I left my car in a carpark to walk into mcdonalds (was a bit peckish)

Come back to find my friend driving it about! Without my permission of course, Didn't think too much of it and she stopped it, i sat in the passenger seat and ate my food, all parked up.

2 seconds later sargent dickhead comes along having seen the whole thing, asks for her licence and insurance that she didnt have and well it all went down from there.

Of course since she was rather pretty she got away with a slap on the hand. Me being your average 17 year old boy racer raising everyones insurance premiums 4 lyfe (joke) I had the car seized and a £50 fine.

Only to go and get the car in the morning with £200 of costs to pay.
And a £35 parking ticket to top it off.

Has anyone else had a worse day? Think I had it pretty bad being stuck in the middle of nowhere too.

Oh, and I didn't have the pleasure of taking that photo, It was nicely uploaded to 'incidents on teesside' facebook page for the whole of the north east to tell me how i should 'be crushed along with the car' and all sorts of other compliments.

fml.

Hes most probs been fined for letting a unlicenced/un insured person drive car,
if it was consented,
Which is obvious or other wise she wouid of been done for T.W.O.C.
!Get her to pay your fine as you didn't grass her up it the least she can do,

id keep your documents handy,
you might get a few tug's in the nearfuture now that you've shaken the wasp hive,

Sorry no sympathy from me. The sargent wasn't being a dickhead just doing his job. If you had left an unlicenced person in charge of your car then your the dickhead. You could have dropped her in it, but then as you say she was rather pretty and you would have had no chance if you'd done that. I hope shes worth all the extra hassle your going to get till you sell your car.

officer was doing his job,imho

Sorry, wtf. He's a dickhead for leaving his friend sitting in the car whilst he goes McDonald's?? !

Considering what happened then YES he is, not for leaving her in the car but he should have taken the keys. The problem is people don't want to take responsibility for their actions. He left a potentially lethal weapon in the hands of an unlicenced person. That is the action of a dickhead and before you have another go try talking to people whos lives have been destroyed by situations like this going wrong and them losing a loved one. I know thats the extreme end but it has and does happen so to call the police names for doing their job is out of order.

I know 9 times out of 10 the person you leave your keys with won't be stupid enough to drive your car but you are responsible for the vehicle so keep the keys with you.

Iagree mate,
but this don't add up, the car shouidnt be seized if the owner is present
and insurance and licence is all present and correct,
even if they carnt be produced on the spot they can check by there database,

Police have the power to impound any vehicle that is being driven uninsured (the girl was uninsured), thats been on the books for a few years now.

If Kyle said the the bobby "Yes, I let her have a drive" then he's also at fault for giving permission for an uninsured driver to take his car.
Personally, I'd have stood my ground and said, "Nope, she took it without my knowing".
She may have still gotten away with a slapped wrist, and the plod would have had no reason to impound his car, as he was there to reclaim it.

Seems like a massive over reaction by the police to me. Sure the girl drove it uninsured but that's her problem, not the ops. My parents used to always leave me in the car with the keys as a child when they popped in somewhere so that I could a) lock it and b) turn the radio on etc, was that illegal? Just because you leave someone the keys doesn't mean you expect them to drive the car.

Ithink that rule gets thrown out mate,
if the cars owner either comes out or is present aslong as mr ossifers checks comeback good on data base,.

I'll let you argue that one with the police ;) but it obviously didn't get 'thrown out' in this case as the guy lost his car. It probably also has something to do with officers discretion as welll, if the insured is also present.

Agreed with you.

You'd have more sense than to stick the keys in the ignition and let an underage driver take your car.

Must've been a field day for the Police who seemed to have gone on an over reaction.
But in the grand scheme of things, if this young lad tells his mates, they won't do it next time in their cars. Could save an accident in the future. (y)

idont have to argue that out with plod mate,
as its not my car, no reason too,

if it where me iwouid of just gone through drive through why walk,
not that ieat that garbage anyway lol,

alls iwas trying to point out is that it don't add up,

It was a figure of speech

Couldn't agree more (y)

Thats where we differ ;). Lucky for us its not our problem and I for one won't be trying to get practical proof either way anytime soon :p

Personally I would have argued that she had T.W.O.C'd it, there's no difference in this situation as to her breaking into his house and taking the keys.

This is disgraceful, and I would especially demand the girl to pay all the charges.

((i sat in the passenger seat and ate my food, all parked up.))

He couidnt of acused her of t.w.o.c
because if he was seen in passenger side of car by officer and shes in drivers seat
with keys in ignition hes banged to rights,

be the otherway round if he was seen pulling her out of driverseat.

if it was me iwouid of pulled her straight out of car and told her to walk

the story is like a fishing net.
