Hi everyone,

Feels like ive had the flashing mileage forever now as iv never got off my a*se and got it done! but iv decided to finally sort it out.

Iv not really seen on here a price someone has got from a fiat dealership to carry out the proxy alignment so i thought id start a thread so people could see what iv paid to get the car fixed!

My GP is booked in on monday, but obviously iv been quoted £60 for the diagnostic ONLY, so il update this thread on monday when its all fixed and sorted (hopefully) with prices, time taken and work done!

cheers

Would have been cheaper in long run to get the kit and do it yourself ;)

Took the car in today and had some horrific news.....the whole blue and me unit is nakerd!!

Been quoted £511 for it to be replaced. Had my GP 6 months, it's an 07 plate with 30k on the clock and iv already had to change the whole steering column which cost £1000+.

Time to get rid I think!!

That main dealer?

I'd get one from same year car in scrappy and fit yourself, probably going to be about £50 max.

What was up with the steering column?

Yes mate that was main dealer, i thought that myself, the dealer said its a job that fiat HAVE to do and made out as if no one else should even touch it (they would say that i know)

Do you know if its much of a job to do?

What was up with the steering column?

I had like a grinding noise behind the wheel going out slow speeds and stationary, power steering kept failing whilst driving and on start up, got worse over time. Took it to a local garage and they said it was the power steering motor. Then took it back to the dealership i had it off and they said that they had to change the whole steering column. Took them two weeks to sort it, I was not at all happy haha! :bang:

Two weeks is a ridiculous amount of time!

I'm not sure on the GP, but in my Bravo I've removed the B&M ECU as replaced the head unit, and it was about 4 screws and 2 bolts, to remove the tray above the glove box which is where its located in most Fiat's I believe.

Probably about 15min max to physically change it in the Bravo.

Bought a replacement blue and me unit today from a fellow member on here who was breaking down a punto, took your advice and trying to save myself some wonga. Now it's just a matter of replacing the units!

Replaced the units today, it's held on by two screws! Put the replacement unit in, turned the car back on.........flashing mileage, no steering wheel buttons work!!!

So now I'm thinking proxy alignment with this unit, or a fiat update? Iv heard you can update it yourself via USB, can anyone verify this?

I expect it will need a proxy alignment, to recognise the new unit. Don't try to do anything else with it until that is done.

There are a few threads already about updating, usually about it no longer working afterwards and the mileage flashing. If after a proxy alignment it works, I'd not try to update it.

Cheers for the advice mate, will get it booked in!

let us know if it works...

some faults it will work on others it wont..

the flashing mileage is a CAN fault which means one or more of the cars systems has gone out of sync taking the battery off for half an hour resets most of the Nodes (individual parts of the network) and when powered back up they might start talking to each other... If there is a faulty part on the network or its a part that needs programming such as a new instrument cluster which needs paring to the body computer it will need plugging in

and with the blue and me been microsoft windows based.. everyone knows turning your PC on and off fixes most things :D

This sounds familiar! I removed my blue and me in the end and replaced HU with Aftermarket, still flashing away Nigel! haha :slayer:

Proxy alignment might work now with the B&M unit out. Did you want to try again? Although, we might still have the "unrecognised" ISO issue.

It should do, I done it after removing B&M ECU from my Bravo when I fitted an aftermarket head unit, and never had any issues with mileage flashing etc since :)
