Hi everyone,

Firstly I need to say thanks to the community for having such a great resource available, I've found it very helpful in the couple of months I've had my GP so far.

Secondly, I'm in France so I know some things will be different, but I can't be bothered trying to decipher the French equivalent of this forum!

At the weekend the window regulator broke on the driver's side (passenger side on a UK car). I took the door apart and the cables snapped where they connect to the bobbin in the motor/drive unit. I need to get a new regulator, and can see that there are options with and without a motor, with and without the "fonction confort" (which I assume is the auto raise/lower without having to hold the switch in position), for 3-dr and 5-dr versions and for both sides of the door. It's easy for me to work out which side I need and whether a 3-dr or 5-dr version, but I have a couple of questions I hope those with more experience can help me with:

1. Can a regulator without the comfort function be used to replace one that did have the comfort function? Are the connector plugs or any other fittings different?

2. The motor on my broken regulator unit still works, so can the motor be easily transplanted to a new regulator without a motor, or are these regulators for manual systems (i.e. I wind the handle!)?

Thanks,

Will

Unfortunately I asked two questions in that one question, and I'm not sure if you're answering no to the first one or the last, so I'll try again:

Can a regulator without the comfort function be used to replace one that did have the comfort function?

Are the connector plugs or any other fittings different?

Sorry for being pedantic, I know you're trying to help, I just want to be sure to make sure I don't order the wrong part.
Thanks,
Will

Thanks for the clarification, that means I definitely can't save any money! The passenger side doesn't have one touch open/close, so I will take both doors apart and check the connectors, just to be sure.

Thanks,
Will

Both the regulators on my car have only two pin plugs, but the drivers side has one touch open/close and the passenger side doesn't, so that doesn't help! All the ones with two pin plugs were without the one touch function, so I ordered one and I'll fit it and we'll see what happens.

FYI, I got one with a two pin plug with the one-touch function and it works well.

Just to be clear, you put window regulator with comfort option on switch (doors) without comfort option and it works as normal (without comfort option)?
Mine passengers window wont open, just clicks when i press switch. I opened door plastic cover and hit plastic wire winder with hammer few times, then it worked... After few days, window stucks again...

Hi marracc,

Unfortunately I can't remember exactly as it was 5 years ago but if I said that I put a regulator with a two-pin plug on a car with one-touch close and after replacement the one-touch close still works then that's what happened.

To be honest I don't really understand your question, it's not clear if your car has one-touch close or not.

As for the sticking window, sounds like you need to replace the regulator!

Cheers :)

The regulator motors should be the same for any version: the onetouch function works with current sensing which seems to be in the switch assembly (driver side).
Here are some excerpts from eLearn about that...

So, onetouch function is part of the switch... My question is are there any differences between rails with comfort function and without comfort function, because there are options when buying regulator without el. motor (is it with comfort fuction or without).

Based on Bernievarian post, comfort function is part of switch, so I think that there shouldn't be differences in regulators, but it is strange that they are offering regulators without el motor in two versions (with/without comfort function).

Also, I would like to know if Regulator with comfort option would work when it is installed on passenger side with - switch without comfort option and vice versa. Is this same as yours situation madbilly (FYI, I got one with a two pin plug with the one-touch function and it works well.)

Hi marracc,

I agree it is strange that there are different options, however I think I decided to buy a "non-comfort" regulator for my car with one-touch closing... and it works. Therefore I think that the rails are the same.

As for the passenger side, I don't know as I didn't change that side. Oddly my passenger side does not have one-touch closing and I've never been bothered enough to figure out why.

I completely understand the difficulty to know what to buy - I had the same issue when recently buying some parts. In the end I fortunately found this website which allowed me to put the VIN in then I could find the Fiat part number for my car, then I could put that into a car parts seller website and find parts that match: pekidi.com

Cheers :)
