Hi my gp tjet is having starting issues it wouldn't turn over, and my breakdown mechanic told me it was the starter motor I've changed that today and the exact same thing is happening a short clicking sound then nothing, I've checked the battery that seems to be fine, maybe it's a. Dodgy earth but I can't find it if it is, if any one has had similar issues please could you help me,

Thanks,

Tjet steve.

Re: Starting issues (starter motor)

How did you check the battery ?
Did you have a real battery test done, or just stick a volt meter on it ?

With just a volt meter, while it may show anywhere between 11 ad 12.5volts, if it doesn't have the ampage, then it's never going to turn.

As a very simple test, try jump starting from your mates car etc.

Re: Starting issues (starter motor)

It was a dodgy earth the earth point on the gear box looked fine as soon as I touched it it fell off very corroded, cost me a pound for the bit I needed and I changed the starter motor for no reason ! 100 quid down the drain but you live and learn I guess thanks for all your help guys much appreciated.

never trust a breakdown mechanic

People moan at the Fiat dealership charges for diagnostics but the 80 ish quid buys you an hour of their time and if they diagnose it and canfix it in that time its 80 + the part cost usually

(and lets be fair they know the common issues better than any other mechanic and know exactly where to look before they have lifted the bonnet Or ask/ search on here before spending money
