Hey I've recently got a message on my dash saying something along the lines of engine coolant being low and that I need to turn off the engine. I checked under the bonnet and it is below the min mark so I was just wondering what coolant would people recommend for an 06 Grande Punto? I know Fiat recommend Paraflu but just in case it's not in stock in my local shops.

Also how do I go about changing it, there's still some left in the container so do I just top it up? I'm guessing the coolant in it already will be a bit different to the one I'd buy though? The coolant in it at the moment is a pink colour.

Never had to do this before in my 2.5 years of driving so want to make sure I get it right

Just normal tap water? Or has it gotta be distilled water?

I went in Halfords today and they had this car book with the correct engine coolants products so found what I need but if water will do I guess I'll save ten quid for now.

What engine you got?

if its the 1.2 or 1.4 see the guides section ;)

ideally find where the coolant is going..... check the edges of the radiator

Yeah I have a 1.4, I looked at the guide for engine coolant but it seems like the person is totally replacing it which I would rather not do at this moment in time. Is it just safe to top it up with water for now like the other member suggested?

Well I went ahead and bought some engine coolant for £12 as there was nowhere that sold distilled water in walking vicinity. Topped it up but the dial hasn't risen from C so does it take a while? Only used the car on a short trip so far. Also checked the coolant level again to make sure there was no leak and there doesn't seem to be. Had no warning message so far again so hopefully everything is ok!

The gauge is water temperature not level go for a,short drive does the heater get warm? At which point the gauge should start to rise if not you have a major problem

andy - Well I've had the message once since however everything seems fine. The dial now rises to half way, and tbh even when the coolant was low I was still getting hot air from the heater. Was worried that I would be mixing 2 engine coolants together even though they are both pink in colour but the Halfords guy said it would be fine and thankfully so far it is.
Montypaks - I've only had this car for a month. My Clio was just awful and no I don't think I did check it come to think of it haha though I had no warning lights or problems with engine coolant. Was mainly with immobiliser/exhaust

I usually just top mine up with any pink coolant regardless off brand, and so far it's been fine!

Just don't forget to do it on a cold engine!
