Is the sporting 1.4 16v engine the same as the t-jet engine just without the turbo, different manifold etc?

Different compression ratio crank shaft, cams, probably con rods and pistons too. The t-jet is also direct injection which I'm not sure the starjet is so that would mean a different head.

Hmm, there seems to be some confusion around this, the site below is one of many saying it is direct injection but then some tuning sites say otherwise. Perhaps a dodgey press release from fiat is to blame????

Err, no. The "Jet" part of the name comes from the trademarked Bosch Jetronic name.

If you Google for images of the Tjet, you'll clearly see the injectors are upstream of the valves-

I don't know where some sites got their info from, although I did find a picture on Italiaspeed from 2006 showing an simulated image of a MultiAir engine with the injector appearing to be in-cylinder, but was clearly a diagram drawn by someone who hadn't physically seen the engine and made no engineering sense.
