Hi Guys, new to the forum and my first post, I have been trying to fix my son`s Grande Punto 1.4 and been struggling to solve the problem.
The first problem was the battery when flat while driving, sure enough failed alternator which I then replaced, the next day the battery failed shorted cell so replaced battery. Now I have the battery warning light "on" even though I have got 12.8 v at battery and 14.2 v with engine running. This problem only occurs after the second engine start after you disconnect the battery and then every time after that. When you switch Ignition "off" then disconnect the - lead of the battery and connect a multimeter to read amps without breaking continuity I get a constant current draw of 3 amps which had caused the new battery to go flat over night. If you break that continuity then there is no current leakage, I have traced this current leakage from the alternator but I don't understand why it is not there if you break the continuity before take the reading, is there any relays in the system and has anyone got any wiring diagrams or advise would be gratefully received. Also I have cleaned the earth points. Thanks Nigel
