Hi all, new to the forum so bare with me. Following a parking dispute i now am faced with either removing a big dent in the tailgate which includes a couple of paint splits or buying a whole new tailgate all together.

I have managed to track down a paint match tailgate for £70 inc of delivery but...

I'm a little worried about replacing the tailgate myself, i though it'd be easy but theres a few complicated bits that have now thrown me off the idea.

I have a 2008 3 door multijet grande.

Any instructions advice would be greatly appreciated including any special tools i'll be needing - just before a phone the guy and confirm purchase of this tailgate

Not too hard but 2 people will be handy..

first remove boot trim (1x screw) and pull off...

next remove boot lock (2x10mm headed bolts) and unclip wiring

unclip wiring from the wiper motor and heated rear screen..

lower boot lid and remove high level brake light https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-guides/294437-high-level-brake-light-bulb-replacement.html

and unclip wiring and washer hose tape ends of wire and hose to keep them together and any other wiring to hold it together.. and make a note of how they run, remove any cable clips......

release the rubber gromet on the boot hatch and carefully withdraw the cables..

now loosen the hinge bolts but dont remove them....

next remove the gas struts.. using a small screw driver to undo the spring metal retainining clips This is where the helper is needed to hold the boot open ;)

ideally with 2 helpers undo the hinges whilst they support it and lift away...

refit in reverse order

The hinges and lock plate are adjustable if needed when refitting as too are the bump stops

Thanks Andy

To trouble you further, the pics this chap is sending me look like a rear windscreen is not included in the deal. How easy is it to swap mine over?

thats a window fitters job its a black art removing toughened glass without it shattering into 1 million bits... our local independent guy is really good charged me £130 for a new windscreen screen fitted to my punto evo (same as the gp) so might be cheaper to get a new screen fitted..... does he include the wiper motor? if not you will need a drill and rivet gun to remove /refit
