Hill Holder / M25 Speed Cameras

Hi Guys,

Hill holder light came on 2 weeks ago.
Filled tyres up to 34psi, front to 36psi... BAM... hill holder unavailable
Says "ASR disconnected' then says 'ASR connected" on my dash display...

2nd thing, bit off the track, I got flashed by Gantry on weekend 11ish at night doing 93mph.
Any idea if I'll get a ticket? Driven that stretch of road loads before but never been flashed.
Seen online on loads of forums that no one has got tickets...

Shed some light lads.

Re: Hill Holder / M25 Speed Cameras

They have 14 days to produce the NIP.
You'll just have to site and wait i'm afraid.

93mph on the Speedo = 86mph ish in real life so probably above the threshold for prosecution I'm afraid.

There are far more gantry camera boxes than actual cameras, most are empty but they move the cameras around so you can't be sure which. Sounds like you've been getting lucky up until now, but you finally came across a full box. It was bound to happen.

Does anyone know if those cameras have gone digital yet? If not there is a good chance the camera that flashed you will have been out of film; the film can run out in a matter of minutes.

As said above, if you don't get a nip in 14 days then you are home free.

Re: Hill Holder / M25 Speed Cameras

They can be turned on and off as required apparently. And I am told they are set to +10%+2mph - so for 70, they're set to trigger at 80

...82mph by your maths and that general rule is different for different council boroughs apparently

Re: Hill Holder / M25 Speed Cameras

10% of 70 = 7
+ 2 = 79
Speed at which you can be pinged = 80

That was specifically for the M25 cameras info from a Roads Policing Officer

Re: Hill Holder / M25 Speed Cameras

There are lots of myths and misunderstandings about cameras. The 10%+2 rule is a guideline, as are most of the other things published. A few years back some forces had a zero tolerance approach.

If the detection rate is too much for the Central Ticket Office to handle, they may increase the enforcement threshold.

As for assuming that others have been flashed and got away with it, maybe it was just because they weren't in use.

The 14 day rule for the NIP only applies to the registered keeper, not all drivers e.g lease vehicles, hire cars, reg in parents name etc. Others drivers may have to wait for the time it takes for the keeper to confirm who was driving.

Was the gantry displaying anything at the time? Usual policy in England is not to enforce the national speed limit using the cameras.

HELLO ALL!!!!

Gantry camera flashed me but no speed showing on gantries before it.
So no variable speed limit.

FEEDBACK

NO TICKET THROUGH THE DOOR...

...apparently on m25 the average speed cameras only do you whilst there is a variable speed limit. so when i got flashed, it was ok as no speed shown on gantry camera. done the trip a couple of times since, not risked it though
my friend said he did 70mph average by heathrow and didnt get done by average speed camera
forums online saying that no one has been fined for last 4 years on m25 by any camera... dont want to risk it though

looks like i got away this time.

Lucky lucky then. Personally, i don't see why risk it anyway. The amount of times i've been caused trouble by some kn**jock doing a tonne is unreal.

How can it have caused you trouble unless you were sitting in the wrong lane and had to move over?

Re: Hill Holder / M25 Speed Cameras

I'm no lane hogger. More general to people speeding in general, not limited to dual lane roads ect. Also i mean when you look in your mirror - clear. Indicate, check again - clear. Begin to move over - kn*bhead!!!

I wouldn't complain on a German Autobahn, as you come to expect it. The kn*bjocks that speed and then undertake even in rush hour are even worse though...
