Hi,

I've recently found out my high level brake light needs wiring due to there being no live at the light fitting.

Just wondering, has anyone ever rewired it, or do you think I should leave it to a garage for £40?

Many thanks in advance

it should be easy enough to run a new feed from one of the brake lights.
Why is there no live ?
Maybe a broken wire in the rubber boot ?

I'd check inside that rubber boot first.
You could probably take a fresh feed from the nearside brake light, however, i'm not sure what it would do to the failed bulb system ?
Maybe it could send it wappy, and report a fault.

Possibly yeah! Although, it doesn't say check stop light anymore, unless it learns to ignore the dead light after a bit. The Thing is, it's £40, or a few quid for a new cable. I just can't imagine running a wire from there to the front, doesn't seem too easy

have you traced the wire back to the lower left corner of the boot yet and done a test as i described at the Goole meet earlier this year?

to rule out a broken cable in the hinge area (even though it looked ok at the time visually)

No Andy, I really need to do things there and then otherwise I just forget!! I need to do this. What if it is broken? Still need to replace the wiring though wouldn't I?

you pull a new piece of cable in and splice it incorporating it into the old loom leaving enough at the light end to connect to the original plug..
.........

dont be tight and skimp on cable get some high flex silicone cable eg

and some loom tape

remove the old cable then rewrap with loom tape (this supports the cables and prevents chafing)

ideally solder and heat shrink each end (remember to slide the heat shrink on before you solder them together ;)

but if you cant solder

get some bullet crimps

first make sure you have made sure the cable is broken
