Hi all.
I have owned my orange T-Jet since December 2012. It was purchased with 30,000 miles on the clock and recently at 34,000 miles I decided to give it an engine service.
All went well (including removal/refitting of oil filter!!!).
I refilled the engine with 2.6 litres of oil, as stated in the owners manual. This was also the figure quoted by my local factors who supplied the parts.
I have now run it for a week without any problem.
However, there is one thing that does concern me.
When checking the oil level (on level ground with a cold engine), the level on the dipstick only just reaches the bottom of the flat section of the dipstick. This is, I understand, the 'minimum' mark. According to my manual, to reach the 'maximum' level would need another 1 litre of oil, giving a sump capacity of 3.6 litres:confused:
Anybody knows whats going on here? I have filled the engine with the correct (?) amount, but the dipstick shows too little!
Any ideas please? Thanks.

which figure did you use? the oil capacity or oil capacity with filter?

they fetch the car to minimum SLOWLY add oil to bring it upto max (i personally fill to about 3/4 )

the 1.2 8v uses the same amount in the handbook but takes upto 3.2 l to max (depending on how well it was drained)

Thanks for the reply.
I changed the filter and drained the sump completely. I then added 2.6 litres as stated in the official Fiat manual/handbook. This is the combined sump/filter capacity.
All correct as far as I can tell, but why the (very) low reading on the dipstick?
I did think that maybe it had the wrong dipstick fitted, but I have checked other threads and it is the correct one.
I may give Fiat a call tomorrow to get confirmation of the capacity. If that is correct, then the dipstick obviously reads far too low. Not very good though!(n)!

on the 1.2 and the 1.4 8v the book figure fetched it to minimum (y)

Thanks again for the information.
It seems as though all of the capacities quoted in the manuals/handbooks are minimums!
I will add more tomorrow to get it at least to half way between 'min' and 'max'.
Very odd way Fiat has decided to give levels. Every other car I have owned, the handbook or manual gave the maximum oil capacity.
Perhaps Fiat are more aware of the problems associated with overfilling. Or am I just being too kind?:D
Thank you very much for your help.
