1.9 JTD Sporting Overheating, now non starter HELP PLEASE

Hi Guys and Girls.

My wifes (2006) Grande Punto 1.9 Sporting had overheating problems yesterday.

On her way home from work on the dual carriageway, the car overheated and the temp scale went through the roof and safety light came on and told her to pull over which she did.

She called me and I came out to look at car.

The bottom rad pipe was cold and top was hot.

No hot air coming through heaters either

Inital thoughts were Thermostat knackered, however, Ive just read that earlier models may have issues with the plastic fin water pump.

I managed to get the car home last night.

I drove to a garage this morning only a mile a way, but it was closed.

Went to start the car and the starter is turning fine, but the engine wouldnt fire. Im now thinking the overheating the day before may have knackered head gasket and hence no compression.

Am i right in thinking this.

Now the car is parked outside the right place.

How much do people think this will cost to sort from experience please?

Just so Ive got an idea.

Many thanks.

Marc

Sounds like head gasket to me. When I got the blown head gasket on my old corsa repaired it cost me about £300 if I seem to remember (but it was about 6 years ago)

Well i now know what the pribkem is.
Looks like water pump failed. As it did, it took the cambelt with it.
So lets see what damage is done to the head.
Im gonna need a new water pump, so do we know if the later metal fin pump will fit the earlier engine?
