Forgive me if I've missed it, but I did search several times and couldn't find what I was after.

I've got the 90bhp Grande Punto 1.3 diesel multijet. It's alright, but like all good things, you soon want more. I'm looking at the 1.6 sporting engine which is faster and cheaper to tax. Everyone says to me "trade it in" but the 1.6 isn't available in azure blue which I really like, so the engine swap would appear to be more economical than a respray.

Aside from the cubic capacity of the combustion chamber, what are the differences between the 1.3 and the 1.6? I already have the 6-cog box, but what other things would I need to buy to make the swap?

I'm not enormously bothered about doing the conversion, I work for an accident management company with a team of engineers upstairs that will work for beer and a barbecue, I just want to know what I will need.

Not quite the advice you are looking for but I've got to say it; what about a re-map? I'd have thought you'd get near the 120bhp of the 1.6 for less cash than an engine swap.

Sensible, guys, sensible... but I could remap the 1.6 and have MOAR!!!

But seriously, thanks for that idea, it's certainly a good back-up plan. Not massively bothered about insurance hikes cos I'm apparently too old for all that shenanigans now anyway (gotta be some advantages to topping the 30 mark, right?)

Yes !
Like getting yourself a nice Focus RS (y)

Looked into getting the whole thing wrapped? Still pretty pricey but less so than a respray. Plus if it came to selling the car the next person could always peel it all off and revert to the factory colour if they preferred.
