Hi

I opened my boot this morning to get my bag out and saw 3 thin wet lines that run down the side of the boot (Passenger Side) they run down from the top all the way down the side carpet to the boot floor from the bit just under the plastics that your parcel shelf sits all the way down to the bottom. So anyway felt the boot carpet and it didn't seem wet so lifted it up to make sure all was okay and low and behold the padding underneath the carpet was dripping wet and a small pool of water was sat there.

Any ideas were it could be coming from, as I don't think its coming from the boot lid as its seems to be running down from the side carpets in the boot down to underneath the boot carpet.

I know it will be a pain in the back side to locate and fix as will probably end up stripping all the boot plastics and carpets. But just want some ideas of were to start looking.

Hoping to start tackling it tomorrow

Thanks in advance for all your help

Dean

Fiver says its the rear light clusters. They are known to leak on the Grande from time to time (and lots of other cars). I once had a similar problem on a Peugeot, taking the light cluster off and using clear silicon cured it.

Hi

The light cluster dosn't go into the inside of the car I don't think unless its leaking were the loom wire popes out of the back of the rear quater.

Will have a look at the weekend have some clear silicone in as bought it buy mistake last month whilst decorating the bathroom.

Cheers

Hi there , check the rear wiper grommet as I know these leak water . It's the small round grommet that sits between the rear window and the rear wiper motor . Heard of this causing a similar problem .

The other thing to check is whether the rear washer hose is split where it passes from chassis to bootlid.

Jameshobiecat I think I might be sending you £5............ Do you take paypal LOL.

Stripped it all down today the foam that surround the seatbelt was drenched and all behind was wet so took the light off the small square seal that goes from the rear of the light were the loom onnect to the car seems okay but this is the only place logically it could be comming from to affect that area's that are wet so have bought some clear silacone and covered the seal with it and put a bit on the panel were the seal meets the bodywork. Just got a few hour's wait before I go pouring several watering cans over it to test.

As for the rear washer pipe already had that issue and repaired last year well along with my countless others.

I do have to say you just couldn't afford to run a fiat without this site so many issues LOL thants why I love you all.

Cheers

No it wasn't the light back to square one it seems to be running in from a higher point just been watching it run in and its strting higher than the light any more ideas

Okay so Update.............

Was out till midnight last night and have done the following.

1. Change rear Light
2. Change boot seal and add seam sealer before applying so ensure 100% effectivness
3. Check ande-seal with a little silacone the wiring loom grommet from the boot lid to the body
4. re-seam seal the panel seals on that side & re-paint
5. Seal around the two screw holes were the lights screw into & touch up wit paint.

and its still comming in light the niagra falls....... okay ay be a little dramtic :)

I have added a picture to show to were its running into the car from but carn't see were it enders as its comming from behind. And I know its high up just below the roof lining but the roof lining is bone dry.

I have circuled were the water is comming in from it is also running down the inside of that panel and leaking through the seatbelt bolts.

Any Ideas will be soooooo welcome I am at my whits end.......

Thanks guys

Dean

Hi
I have the same problem on my GP.
Have you understand why and find a solution for that?

Had the same problem on my Gp Last Yaer found it was coming in from the aerial mounting at the base and running along the cable wich happens to run on the left side of the car and kind of acts as a capillary for the water. sealed up the base with silicone sealer no problems

Hint! dust the area with talcum powder then it is easy to see leaks coming in

Having the exact same problem!! But the leak is on both sides. Checked aerial mounting and no leak coming in from there. Please any suggests. 100% not the lights, I've already put silicone on n sealed them with no luck.

The leak also fills my tailgate up n causes water to leak into the lock which has caused that to stop working too

All the tailgates collect some water.. that is their nature..

But to fill the lock.. maybe it is pouring over a lip.. and them filling the boot

Tip:

When the tailgate is half open..so Horizontal.. water should run from the rubber bumpstops in the corners

Ok didnt know that, at least that's normal, I'm going to leave it till next week now as I got the whole week off work, in prepared to spend a day with the hose pipe on the roof to find the source of entry. I will return with either pictures and a solution.

So quick update like I said I would.
Found the boot lock leak by placing the hose directly over my wiper motor. left it 2 minutes and found it pissing in as you can see from the photos. All that water was dripping directly into the boot locking latch that I temporarily to removed.

I've tried soliciting inside but was very hard and messy and it failed. So I've now done a half neat silicon job on the outside rubber and again you should see that in the photos. Moving onto the two side leaks tomorrow.

Hi, I know this is an old post..........
I had a boot leak which was hard to identify, came thro' inside panels badly.
Turns out it was the gutter joint, took rubber out and used a Good sealer on about 6" of it. On first analysis it did appear to be light cluster.
It used to pour in when rained!! Not any more.
