As the title says, there is a loud harsh banging/rattling sound when hard accelerating in 1st and 2nd gear, then goes away straight away. There is no noise when normally driving. It sounds like its coming from the front passenger side and actually sounds like its from the cabin. It also does it more when turning right. Used to only make the sound in 1st from stand still when very hard accellerating, I just thought it was my dodgy clutch control that used to make it happen lol

Anyone have a clue? read through other threads and suggest drop links but how can I tell its them?

M-jet exhausts have been known to knock on the bracing bar, I imagine t-jets could suffer the same problem.

Update!!!

Think I found 99.9% what the sound is, The bolt that holds the downpipe from the turbo to the cat heatshield has fallen out and I think the pipe (because its not secured) is hitting something underneath. I did try and fix it at the weekend but it was impossible to get the pipe bracket hole in line with the heatshield, even doing it with the undertray off the car which I don't know why :(

I had the exact same issue sorted this week after 2 months of rattling, check your dipstick and make sure it doesn't rattle in it's place. Have the rubber handle pointing north / south of the car (facing the cabin) and see if that helps. This was my issue and would only be present under hard acceleration and turning sometimes due to the engine workin harder - biggest relief and cheapest fix ever.

PS: Also make sure oil isn't low, mine was too.

Thanks for that but it must be this pipe because the dipstick and oil level are fine. Cheers anway (y)

Re: Update!!!

Maybe a coincidence but I think I too now have a worn gearbox mount, as its making a fairly loud/solid thud occasionally on hard acceleration/breaking. I don't think its a pipe sound but something else for me to check.

I have a powerflex mount ready to go into it anyway so I think I'll just replace the whole thing while I'm under there, it is coming up to 5 years old and the rubber down there is open to the elements so I wouldn't be surprised if its becoming perished.

Gearbox mount is fine and the droplinks are alright as well. Didn't realise powerflew did a new mount for the t-jet.
