Hi all

Thought I would come take a look around the forum as I have just bought the missus her first car. I have got her a little 1.2 active on an 06 plate with the linea race kit (number 24) and wheels (17s in dark grey). She is very happy with the car and I got a good deal I think.

The thing is, I have been told that the thrust bearing needs sorting out.

I have been told by the garage that I bought it from that this would cost me about £100. I am really unsure about the price as I have not had to do this sort of thing before. What I wondered is, is this the cause of the whirring sound upon pulling away in first and second and also will getting this sorted improve the understandably slug like performance.

Re tyhe performance, is there anything that can be done to improve it as it is rather sloth like! LOL but I cant do anything elaborate as this is her first car and insurance is the issue.

Thanks for reading and I hope that I can give help and advice back as I am more involved in the interior electrics side of things

Thanks, she does love her, as I say she just thinks she is a little gutless, but hey thats insurance restrictions for you!

Hey there! Lovely little car, i do really like the Linea race kit. if you search the forum you will find a thread where there are people fighting tooth over nail for a linea style grill

Performance wise, didn't all the official GPs with linea kits only come with the 1.2 petrol engine? The larger wheels wont help either, standard GPs come with 15" wheels. All i can recommend is downsizing them but for the little gain of power you would lose the linea alloys which I also wouldn't recommend :(

I have no idea re the origins of the original Line Race editions. I do have the original receipts for the car though which shows it coming with it. I have to say the side and front skirts look lovely on it. I originally bought it all for myself but the missus has now taken the keys and I have lost it forever lol!

Would the thrust bearing issue affect the performance dramatically?

It is funny actually as the neighbour did come out and double took a bit! Offered me 500 for the kit and wheels lol.....

I had not realised how popular the kit is!

hi, and welcome,
I'm certainly not a FAN of bodykits , as on the whole they tent to look like "Airfix-Kit! afterthoughts,
but as it's a factory thing I'm OK with it , and in the small pics I've seen it actually looks pretty good ( colour helps),

Re the bearing - I'm assuming it's a clutch release bearing,
does it go quiet / change tone, if you depress the clutch pedal in neutral / in gear..??

if it IS the release bearing I very much doubt it's effecting the performance,
and considering it's a gearbox off job £100 sounds pretty fair,
however why not wait a few weeks until it gets bad - as you may as well spend a little more and get a clutch kit in there at the same time,

Charlie

The noise seems to be when you release the clutch and pull away. Upon depressing the clutch the noise is not there at all. I was considering a brand new clutch but wondered whether that would be worthwhile. Thank you varesecrazy

I will try to get some more pictures, the missus currently has it at work so will try over the weekend, it needs a good wash though and as she has an inability to wash cars with bangles and rings on, I will do it!

Hey there not too fond on the kit myself only because its all colour coded to your car, why don't you get the front splitter/spoiler done to the same colour as your alloys?
Also what does the rear look like? Get some pictures up!!!
;)

Edit: actually get the whole kit done same colour as your alloys :)

Not too technically minded, it sounds more like a ticking upon moving off. Will take it to another garage to get a second opinion I think.

Weird...ticking? Are you sure there's even anything wrong?

As for performance, on 1.2 8v forget it absolute waste of money fella. If insurance is a worry even a small 'mod' will basically be waving a red flag to the insurance company.
