Hi everyone,

I've read every post relating to car pulling to one side, but was looking for a few more pointers in where the problem can be before I take it to a garage again and they tell me everything looks ok. This is what I've done so far:

Changed steering column (had to be done anyway because was stiff in one direction)

Alignment and Tracking

Rotated tires

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Next I think I am going to try changing both strut mounts with new ones.

Cheers

Check for binding brakes, our blue sei pulled to the left, checked tracking was all fine but looked at brakes and one of the pads was bent at the top, this was causing them to bind and pull the car to the left. Mad I know...

Thanks Reuuk.

I'll have a look at the brakes tomorrow. Bloody freezing outside the last few days! When I drive on a straight road with no camber it still pulls to the left and steering wheel sits slightly left. It's driving me crazy.

My next steps were going to be change springs, strut mount, drop link and ball joint on the LH side.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Thanks Andy,

I've had the tracking done 3 times so far. Twice at one place and then another but still same result! I think it must be something mechanical somewhere! :bang:

I had this on another car (not a Punto) and it was caused by a nearside strut being slightly bent after I hit a pothole. With the car parked on level ground, look carefully and check the angle that each wheel meets the ground at. If the strut is bent, you will notice that the wheel meets the ground at a different angle to the others, usually leaning out more or pushed back slightly. You also mention that the steering column was replaced. Can you elaborate more on what happened to it, and if any electronic adjustment was carried out to the power steering configuration after that work was done?

After I bought the car over time the steering became really heavy turning to the right and very light turning left. I did some research about the steering and finally decided to take to a specialist in Bristol. After testing it he said that if it was replaced with a reconditioned unit the heaviness will go away, and it did. The problem of slightly veering left constantly existed prior to the column being replaced. I don't know if there was any software setup to the column. I called them last week and he told me it has to be mechanical. Would the ECUtesting software be able to correct that? I only have the standard lead....and I haven't paid for the software.

Thanks

Did they replace the steering rack or the PAS / motor unit in the column?

PAS/motor. I just ran the multiecuscan and steering centred says 0. When driving with the steering info on the computer there is a constant force acting on the wheel of 0.50 to 0.80 nm. Something has to be bent or not straight!
