DomSing says new battery cured all gremlins on my GP 1.3JTD, blown bulbs, airbag & engine overtemp msgs gone. Seems the old battery was too worn out. BTW starts immediately, no cranking past 1-2 secs, glo plugs heat up quick.

Funny you should say that mate, I have problems with bulbs blowing frequently as well as the engine messages and starting issues, will try a new battery, thanks a lot :D :D

hi mate, last year I had something very similar,

I took the car to a trusted garage near me and had the egr changed, this still didn't cure the problem.

I then went to fiat and they said it was the cam sensor, however this is situated behind the cam system so they said they couldn't take it off and back on because there is risk of snapping and it was almost due anyway.

once this was all changed I still had the issue I literally couldn't start the car for a few tries I had to wait a while then try again.

the car was then in fiat for weeks and they had a fiat specialist come and spend a few days on it, in the end "apparently" it was a part that turns the cam had a dent in it and they told me it could be doing something on start up because of a misshape, (to this day I don't know if that was true) but they changed that and it has worked better since.

Just a thought as I was so frustrated and no one knew what was up with mine either.

Where can I set a a decnt battery from, mine has same problem, ha all glow plugs changed except for one that is stuck

Success! Starts like a dream with the new battery. Thanks for all the suggestions! Nice to know that it is fixed. DomSing.

Lol, welcome to GP start up problem helpline!
That's what Fiat should set up.

Yeah new battery sorted mine out.
Sometimes misfires, maybe once every 2-3 months.
Had ALLLLLLL sorted of messages flash up.
At the moment my Hill Holder is Unavailable and I have the yellow triangle constantly on. I ignore it. Hill Holder is useless anyways! :slayer:

Messages I've had
- Excessive Temperature
- ABS Not Available
- Hill Holder Not Available
- Air Bag
- Check Engine
- numerous others
as above, they sort themselves out!

I see I never posted what really happened to mine in the end well you would never guess what the problem was yes the glow plugs this car hates the NGK plugs as they take to long to heat up correctly however SHOP4PARTS sell the fiat ones and the car starts a treat I have since sold the car to a friend as im in Australia for 6 months but he has had no problems with it at all so if anyone else has the problem just make sure you get genuine Fiat glow plugs as the heat twice as fast and stops the issue DONT NOT BUY NGK

had mine remapped if anyone is thinking about it have it done its a different car would kill most BMW AUDI on the motorway not a problem and still see 51 mpg at the same time fantastic choice sadly im not staying with fiat anymore when im back im going to be getting a Ibiza cupra mk4 tdi 160 or 1.8t 180 as the VAG group is so much better built

just to share my experience my 06 1.9mjet, it was been 2 years having a hard start when its cold and getting worst, battery drain quickly, I replaced my battery twice.
upon reading all forums advice I almost change all the sensor, glow plug, egr cleaned, then replace, egr blocked, unblock, but still the same.
last week I found the solution.
it was my starter motor. yes "STARTER MOTOR"
I couldn't figure it out before that it was the SM (starter motor), because when its engine is warm it start straight away, but on first time hardly start 2x to 5x revolution before it starts then a plum of white smoke, thought it was ignition problem, so I add additive to increase cetane. but nothing change, I have also errors saying excessive heat on engine while it was stone cold, suspecting ecu. but.. it was the SM the culprit.
that's it, change my starter with brand spanking new, my car even start without the glow plugs light not extinguish.

now very happy, starts like a petrol engine, 1 crank and ignition success.
