Hi all,
I am new to this forum, I own a grande Punto 1.9 Sporting M-Jet and have been having a real diffuclty :( When driving - (especially during or just after heavy load on the engine.. going up hills overtaking etc) I lose all acceleration. I can maintain speed but cannot gain any. If I change down gears the revs will obviously gain but can still not gain speed. This happens at least 3 times during my daily commute to work which is 8 miles or so. It can last anywhere from 15 or seconds to 3-4 minutes.
I hope you can help,
Thanks,
Mark

i might be wrong but it sounds like your clutch is slipping , similar thing happened to me in my old car is there a slight burning smell when it revs really high

Assuming you are not getting an engine management light on the dash and it isn't going into limp mode I'd say it was your egr valve. Common fault on the m-jet, loads of threads on here, have a search.

Yeah I'm beginning to think egr, thanks for your help guys. No codes when plugged in to code reader though?! Over last couple of days I have driven it harder and that seems to have helped a lot, but still not completely cleared.

Yeah no warnings lights, i think maybe the egr valve is partially blocked and driving harder over the last day is what has maybe improved it :) gunna take egr valve off tomorrow and give it a clean :)

Sounds like a fault I had not long after I bought mine. If I recall right it was the mass airflow valve. I think thats what they said anyway - it certainly sorted the problem immediately and had it done under warranty - :)

Hi All,
I have removed the EGR valve now and all is back to normal.
Am thinking about having the valve mapped out of the ecu but was wondering could this be harmful to the engine at all?
Cheers,
Mark

People have blanked them off but I think they may have had some small issues. Loads of threads on it, again have a search.

Hi all,
The Egr is very simple to remove and blank with blanking plates, they cost abou £3 off of eBay or you can make them yourself from sheet aliminum.
The car runs a bit slow with it blanked out but after having the EGR maped out too the performance is soon back to normal if not better than normal, the EML also disappears :)
