When was the car last fully serviced?
Tyre pressures ok?
Have you had any problems starting the car?

My last gp developed a drinking habit just before the map sensor died

The high pressure fuel pumps don't like it and cost mega money to replace.

Anyone seen the European commission's report on official mpg figures? Whilst the testing is done on a rolling road in front of independent inspectors, the manufacturers have to calculate drag and rolling resistance figures to factor in mathamaticly. Turns out they have been cheating by taping over the panel gaps, using a low friction road surface, smaller wheels and even running the cars down hill. Add that to the fact that the cars on the rolling road have fully charged batteries, none of the electrical accessories are used, the air con stays firmly off and they pull out the fuses for non-essential systems and what chance has anyone ever got of matching the figure? The European commission have concluded that the cheating has knocked 11% of official fuel consumption and co2 figures.

Finally, the test cycle itself is far from perfect. It is meant to represent the whole of Europe, our roads are poorly designed and crowded so we will use more fuel than the average. Also the cycle is surprisingly short, taking in a limited range of speeds and accelerations. This allows the manufacturers to optimise the gearing for a few specific speeds that in reality you don't always drive at.

The topic here is (GP) petrol not diesel.

The high pressure pump uses the diesel as lubrication plus mondeos are a pig to start when empty even changing the fuel filter you often have to use a mitivac.

Sorry assumed you were still referring to yourself with regards the running the car dry method, although even with a petrol engine its not going to be a very accurate average mpg reading is it one litre ? about 10 miles with already well warmed engine.....a lot less from cold....

Serviced last year, will have one in a few weeks.
Pressures fine.
No starting problems that I can remember.

Re: Sh*te MPG. :(

I am currently averaging about 30mpg with my 09 1.4 active sport 8v.

However, that is alot of start/stop driving where i drive. speedbumps/potholes all over the place.

Thanks,
Michael

The whole MPG thing is so subjective. I barely get that around town sometimes with my 1.3 diesel!

Re: Sh*te MPG. :(

Do I just drive old lady style or something, I haven't seen under 40 since I bought my car. (When I bought it the TRIP displayed 22mpg, probably a lot of shunting around the dealership)

You work that out with pen and paper or is it what the trip lied and told you?
