hi i have a grande punto sporting 56 reg and its done 75,000 miles i have had the car 2 months at first no problems but after about 3 weeks the glow plug warning light came on so i had them changed and also the oil and filters however im having to turn over the car longer then normal before it starting and a fair bit of blueish smoke for the first few seconds which i think is unburnt fuel/ oil and one had anything like?

Hi I had a look at the link and think that it sounds like it could be the relay. Playing up as if I heat the glow plugs 6 or so times it seems to start better seems to me as if they are not heating long enough on these colder mornings does anyone know how eeasy it is to replace the relay and I had a look online and can get the part for £70 posted if anyone knows of anything cheaper please Ley me know will put some pic up of the car soon

Not sure where its located its either at the back at the engine bay or in the engine fuse box???? maybe someone else knows? and to my knowlage its a case of unsrewing it from the car pulling out a plug and putting the new one on (again if someone can confirm that would be great) I would get the glow plugs changed at the same time 2 birds and 1 stone and all that nonsence (y)

Jordan.

I have only just about 5 days ago had the plugs changed that's why I can't understand why its being funny to start as it came up with the warning so had them changed will have a look when the weather gets better

I'll elaborate on my previous post. I had exactly the same problem as you on my previous 407 diesel. It would be a bit slow to fire on cold mornings and would smoke a lot when the engine did catch. Although the battery had reasonable charge when measured with a multimeter I replacad it anyway since it was five years old. After that I only had to breath on the key and it would fire.

I will also add that the current temperature is classic battery death stuff and that the battery is the cheapest and easiest thing to check/replace.

Had a look in the history had new battery only a year ago also tested the battery an it was reading 13.03v so can't be that I think the problem is the car is not letting the plugs heat long enough as they only heat for 3s in the morning does anyone know if they can be programed to heat longer
