Hi, wondering if anyone could help. The past couple of days when driving my punto, for no reason at all my driver side window goes up and down. It jumps all the way down and then all the way up to the point that when it eventually decides to go all the way down it gets stuck. I have realised if I turn my engine off for a couple of minutes and back on I can use the switch to the get the window back up. I can hear the motor in the switch running and clicking, has anyone else had this problem or know where to start to fix it? It seems worse when my cars heating is on. Thanks Beth!!!:)

Sounds like a real lack of power mate is the battery on the car very old? It might be worth having the battery checked mate. If the window regulator has gone which the GP seems to be prone to I would recommend shop 4 parts if you need to buy a new one.

Anyways, the best person on here to answer this is Andy Monty or as I have started to refer to him as ***The Oracle***.

P.S. Hoppe you dont mind Andy. LOL

Welcome Beth

ive not come across this before

but first things to check

have you by any chance opened the window when the glass has been covered in snow and its fallen inside? or left the door / window open in the rain?

if so there is probably water in the drivers side switch unit..

and a simple of way of proving the switch if it has another fault is to remove it from the car (its easy honest)

https://www.fiatforum.com/grande-punto-guides/238842-drivers-door-lock-replacement-repair.html

the top few photos show you what to do...

there are 2 plugs it should be self explanitary which is for the windows...

one is for the mirror adjustment..... (just unplug it WITH THE WINDOWS CLOSED and see if the window stays shut for a couple of journeys you wont be able to open the windows with it disconnected but at -5^ forecast tonight i cant see that been an issue ;)......

If so its the switch if wet dry it out in a warm place and blast well with contact cleaner (available from most electrical /electronic stores eg Maplin

or get a replacement...

if it continues to happen with the switch unplugged.....

if there is still an issue next port of call would be the door hinge area...

the cables in there can brake and cause all sort of funny issues as they short to the bodywork / door as too can corrosion and or damp in the door plug.....

again a blast of contact cleaner in here wont harm

I believe the relays for the door motors are on the body computer inside the car

Thank you Thank you! Have disconnected for now before looking at it properly at the weekend

Regards Beth

Hi all , sounds like a strange problem . First of all I would check the door multi plug for water , switch multi plug for water too . Also check for broken wires in door multi plug loom as this is common (y)
