An hour's drive? So what? You took your car for a pointless 3 hour drive?!

I'd take it right back there, park it at the entrance of the forecourt so no one can get in or leave, hand the keys to the dealer and say get it fixed and you'll be paying for my travel costs as well.

Well within your rights to do so, don't take any crap.

The guys seem more than happy to fix it, so that's good news!

I had my battery checked again today - it should be sitting at 300 amps, but only has 201. I've ordered another one, so hopefully this will make a difference.

It was reading a code 2FR50-QW. Any ideas what that means?

Where or what is the code for?

Eventually got it read!

The following code appeared:

C1002 Steering Column motor torque position sensors.

Help me - I apologise for being such a novice!

That usually appears when the PAS unit is on its death bed (NOT CHEAP FIX ) ..... (however a dead battery can also throw this up)

Was it a stored code or is the PAS light still on?

Has come on since the battery has been changed???

If it does turn out to be a dead steering motor, I used a company local to me selling on Ebay, they supplied a refurbished system, the garage next door to them fitted it for me (arranged by the seller), total was about £400 supplied and fitted (possibly a little less), its been perfect since. If your car is under warranty then thats the way to go, if not then its not the end of the world at £400 all in with a guarantee.

Turns out the new battery doesn't make any difference! Damn! I'm not grudging the £40 though - it needed one anyway!

I'm taking it back to the garage I bought it from next week! Fingers crossed they'll replace the column for me! Is it just a column that's needed or does it need any other parts too?

Does it need to be recoded at fiat too?

Woohoo,

Problem is eventually sorted! A new steering column with lifetime guarantee - fitted and supplied for free! Definitely can't complain!

Thanks for all your help!
