Picked up my punto today, 1.9 jtdm sporting. On the way home the power steering just cut out, no warnings just cut out. Pulled over and there was a message on the display which read:
"Have power steering checked, see manual"
Turned the car off an on again and it was fine.

The dealer I bought it off has given me a 3 month warranty so I called him and he said it might be because its been sat for a long time but if it persists he will sort it. Is this a common issue with the grande's?

Any help would be appreciated as I love this car already and I don't want to take it back lol

Common issue with low battery voltages, especially when the car has been sitting. Should sort itself out or might need a charger wacking on the battery or possibly even the battery replacing.

If it's flagging up with other errors like ASR failiure it needs the computers fault codes read.

And yes it's common in cars that have stood a while. Did it on mine after it had been sat in the dealers for 2 weeks. A trickle charge made it go away.
