Normal?

T-jet has gone from averaging 37-38mpg down to 33-34mpg since fitting new tyres. I understand there might be a wear in period and additional resistance but anyone else got experience of this?

For reference I had 4 brand new Toyo T1R'S fitted (205/40/17)

I know different tyres make an impact on mpg but i'd hardly thing it would be noticable!

check the pressure, and have they been balenced properly?

how much did you pay for the toyo's out of interest?

noticed your in Manchester, come along to the monthly trafford meet when they get going again :)

Might just be a coincidence, my t-jets mpg has fallen recently in the colder weather.

... gone from averaging 37-38mpg down to 33-34mpg since fitting new ... Toyo T1R'S ...

I suspect you’ve been caught-out by the `Buy Toyo T1-R – they’re great!’ myth.

Q. What tyres (inc size) did they replace?

Definitely mate, let me know when!

And don't forget to keep checking them...! :)

They could have been low because of leaks, or bad seals between tyre and rim... -- although unlikely: as it was uniformly wrong, all-round. Also, running them that low may have slightly deformed them: so just keep a beady eye on them, just in case...!

Just out of interest, where did you get the new tyres fitted...?

PS: My T1Rs are great -- even in the wet... -- so not all myths are created equal...! :p

I got them fitted inc. New valves balancing and tracking for just shy of 300 quid at Ears Motorsport in Macclesfield. They seemed to do a good job and are very popular it'd seem.

This thread inspired me to go out and check mine for the first time in months. 5psi down all round, must check them more often!

Thanks for the Homeward Toyo T1-R Report [Dec2012] – may vehicle & tyre manufacturers find it an interesting addition to their research papers.

I’ve no idea who you should advise at the European Commission to argue you find the measurements according to the test methods set out in Regulation EU 1222/2009 for the T1-R & as published by Toyo fall short of your own findings. But do let us know how you get on.

Given that a number of T1-R sizes fail to meet the 2014 standard for fuel efficiency, will you be disclosing your testing methodology to Toyo – that they may adopt it as standard, to enable the continued production of the current spec T1-R beyond 2014?

Did you really need to be that snarky...? Totally unnecessary. I was just reporting what I had found, personally... -- as have many others on the forum.... :p

And a very merry Christmas to you, too...!

Wah wah wah...

Shut up

And merry christmas.

What tyre's did you come from? And yes I noticed a significant decrease in economy when going from Bridgestone Potenza's to Toyo T1R's. They grip well for the money but they are noisy and cost you more in fuel. Great budget tyre for Track days but I don't recommend them for everyday driving at all.

YyeesS – confirmation of a known principle.
Unpalatable information that conflicts with preconceptions must be rejected, suppressed or ignored.

And a happy T1-R New Year.
