Hi Guys,

i cant seem to find anything on here about this so just wondering whether any one have had the same fault.
i have a 1.4 8v grande punto and when driving normally and the revs are about 2000 onwards i have a terrible noise coming from the engine. personally it sounds like a bearing as it increases with revs and gets louder.
i know its not wheel bearings as i can even get it to do it when im just sitting there revving the car to 2000 revs onwards.
its only seems to do it once the car has heated up a bit which seems forever in this cold weather lol because in the morning when its cold it doesnt do anything.
any help would be much appreciated.

thanks
Martin

when was your waterpump and timing belt last changed? how olds the car/millage?

with you saying 'when gets up to temperature' it would make sence for it to be water pump mine did similar noise when mine was worn and pritty much had it! it wobbled and everything!

does this 'bearing noise' change or 'chatter' when idling? (once warm obv)

hope this helps :)

Hi,
the mileage is about 38k and its a 2007 gp.
i had the timing belt and tentioner replaced mid last year but i dont know if they done the water pump?

nothing like that at all, when its idling i get nothing it is at the moment only above 2000rpm once the temprature increases.

i will get the water pump checked tonight and see if i can see anything obvious!

Ideally they should of replaced the water pump for you when doing the timing belt. or at least asked if you wanted it doing! have a look in your service history see if its on there. if its not change garage as there clearly too lazy!

I would recommend checking it, like i said these symptoms your describing are the same as what i had.. but i had the added idle noise (once warm).
Other things to check are the other pulleys in that area such as the alternator and pulleys.

let us know

i have just checked with the garage and they didnt do the water pump suprise suprise!!
on idling once warm i can hear something chattering as you described but its not that loud at the moment.

mines not as bad as that at the moment but that noise doesnt sound that far off compared to what my car is doing. im getting the car checked today so i will keep you updated.
thanks
