Hi All :)

I have a 2007 1.4 8 valve GP, noticed on these cold mornings that the heater is a bit rubbish - the temperature gauge goes up to mid way but the output isn't that hot - even on 3 on the fan its a warmish blast to the legs. Any ideas? I know the fan often packs up but that's working fine. Pollen filter changed in August.
I suspect is't a weak system, also engine isn't highly tuned and not pumping out loads of heat, probably over cooled so it's no furnace. :p

Not sure if they do winter thermostats, think the 8 valve engine is same one as the 1.2? I used to have an old Astra that always ran cool in winter and had gunge under the oil filler cap, resorted to blocking off some of the radiator to get it warming up properly.

Winter thermostats...someone's showing their age;)

I'd get the antifreeze level checked and make sure the heater matrix pipes going to the bulkhead are hot. Is it possible the heater is ok but your still getting used to the recent cold weather?

My 188 heater is very poor when it comes to heat and I was considering blanking it half off the other morning, they were the days:)

muff needed.......

Hi, thanks for the comments - yes T14086 I do remember the 1980's and being able to buy a 92 degree thermostat for BL and Ford cars:eek:

Perhaps it is me not being used to slightly sub zero temperatures and expecting more. God help us if it's minus 8..

I have been checking out those 12v heated car seat covers on the interweb, may risk the legendary fiat wiring and get some warmth that way. The muff has some appeal but not sure about it blocking too much air flow and causing the opposite problem in traffic. On my old 2002 Astra I used some foam camping mats cable tied behind the lower bumper, high tech ;) but it did get the old 1.6 8 valve lump warming up. I might check out the situation behind the grille to see if any air deflection muff could be rigged up..

Could be worse, I could have a diesel which don't warm up as well as the powehouse 1.4 77bhp...
