I bought my grande fiat punto 6 weeks ago with no warranty. It is a 1.4 16v sporting 2007 model... Had no problems until this morning... The car will not start atall and doesn't make any noise.. It says check power steering? All the electrics are still work.
If anybody has any idea on what this could be I'd be greatful of the help, thanks!:)

Don't want to sound daft but would the electrics still work if the battery is flat??

Do you have breakdown cover? If home start included great, if not push it 250m and you should be fine. Otherwise buy a DC multimeter and test the battery for the right Voltage.

yes it will work at starting the car draws a high current if the car battery is weak it will not feed the starter motor with the enough current but it can feed other electronics

give it a test open your main beam light and try to start the car if the lights dim more than normal then it is a battery problem

i am an electrical engineer by the way ;)

The car makes no attempt to start and power steering error message is displayed;

I would check the 2 fuses on battery + terminal then read the error codes. Was the car ok before this happened? There was a ignition switch issue on early models as well which would cause a no crank situation.

would your kettle at home work if power was off?

Nope but the person below cleared that question up lol. Thank you everyone I don't have breakdown cover but someone coming to look at it today. Hoping it is just a battery problem and not something more expensive.
