Blocked scuttle drains..

has your car got a pollen filter?

Pollen filter at the moment no, but there is a slot to put one in, and the scuttle drains you mean the 2 rubber hoses coming from the scuttle panel I've checked those and there both clear, same behind the wipers aswell, looks abit dirty but nothing clogged up behind the plastic trim.not sure where abouts the air is drawn in from that the heater blower pulls in, presumably from the engine bay via some ducting not sure where that would be though.

My heater motor only comes on when I knock it or give it a small tug and only will stay on for 1 min then goes off. I've removed it and found it to be wet inside the motor.not sure about fixing the motor as I dont know how, I've got a new motor and resistor on order and I've got a pollen filter to test out depending on what sort of heat I get if I can get it working again, but I need to make sure nothing is going to get wet again ?

The heater box draws its air from the 'scuttle' ..that big void where the wiper motor lives

How long have you owned this grande?

The basic power to the motor is often patchy.. but consistent airflow should mean never looks 'damp'

A van owner recently found their motor to be red.rusty..and DEAD

The carbon dust from the brushes can make a conductive paste when damp..

So worth flushing it out

Yes it's as you described it's like a wet black paste inside the motor itself covering the copper inside, quite thick stuff in there. hopefully just with age and the damp weather we've had,it has deteriorated and clogged up. fitting a new motor and resistor in the next few days, both resistor and motor have surface rust and look pretty old so I'm guessing it wont hurt to replace them both now before I get any wiring issues.have owned the car 6 years and no heating problems up until now.

I replaced the heater motor and has now fixed my intermittent heater issue.ill try and upload a photo of my old one maybe someone can tell me if its completely gone or not.anyhow problem resolved, thanks for the great guides and how to guides really helped.

Heres the old motor, the new one looks different inside and is a bit louder than the old one but can definitely feel the difference, alot more air is getting pumped through to the cabin.

Yes I've seen a thread on here about the brake servo cover/gasket rusting through and mine has indeed suffered quite badly.i suspect this to be the cause.i hope to get it done as soon as we have some decent weather.thanks for the help everyone
