Hello all, I own a Fiat Grande Punto 1.4 8v Active Sport (56 reg).

Since I bought it, I've really wanted to connect my iPhone to play my music through my speakers but I've had to stick with CD's...

Today I went down to my local Fiat dealership and talked to the 'parts' guy, and he suggested a £80 iPod kit that "WILL" work even though he said he can't supply anything for my model -.- (I know he's trying to make money...)

So I said i'll come back another day and see what's up (I don't want to go back because it's basically £80 for a wire). Then I thought to myself, can't I just take my head unit out and plug one of these in?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/ALFA-ROME...0?pt=UK_In_Car_Technology&hash=item20cd39fc90

(It does say Fiat Grande Punto :-D)

So can I just take out my head unit, fit that in, feed it through the gap under neath my heating controls and bam, start jammin' to music through my iPhone? or is it not that simple and will require additional shiz...?

Thanks for reading all! Hope you can give some advice :)

Phill

Thanks a lot buddy, ahh' okay, but if I take out my iPhone and use a CD, i'm still able to mute, and select next track and volume with the CD playing, just not the iPhone?

Thanks again Stephen!

You need to make sure you have the 'Aux' setting on your unit. (Just press the CD button twice and if it says 'Aux' your good to go). In regards to steering wheel controls they are unaffected for general use. But when in 'Aux' mode you will only be able to use volume and mute. You will need to control the music using your music player (I use Siri with my iPhone 5 in a stand attached to my vents). Just make sure to disconnect battery before fiddling with the system. And don't force or pull wires excessively.

You CAN add your iPhone and control it with a variant of an SD / USB Reader I just bought and it will cost about £40. Here's the link...

There is no need at all to disconnect the battery in order to install this.

I can recommend THIS guy. I just bought two MP3 cables, one for my GP and another for my Alfa Spider with a nearly identical Radio/CD player. It was "plug and play" for the GP but it turns out that my Alfa has an amplifier which already had a connector where the new MP3 wire is supposed to go; forcing me to fabricate a short jumper wire. When I mentioned this to the Ebay vendor, he immediately sent a modified connector (from the UK to Italy) without charge, even though he had no obligation to do so. He also answered my questions immediately via Email. Good guys are rare these days, it seems. I thought I'd give him a thumbs up.

Am I missing something here but surely if you have an Aux button on your head unit you would have a 3.5mm socket in your glove box anyway in which case you would need only a 3.5mm to 3.5mm wire?

And if you dont have the Aux button will this work by simply pressing the CD button twice (Stupid question, expecting stupid answer). The ebay ad says it will only work if you have the aux button on your head unit.

Someone please set me straight becuase having aux input on my head unit would be nothing short of a god send :)

It has an aux mode but no connection unless it was a paid extra even though all the units can do it. Worth checking your glove box but if there isn't one there than you will have to buy the adapter. There's a guide in the section. But basically buy the adapter, pull out radio with the appropriate keys, plug it into the back and feed the audio jack through the dash behind the stero and out from under the stero by those useless cup holders. I did this with mine and it works fantastically. With my iPhone 5 I can even use it as an hands free when I have calls as the mic is pretty good. I put my iphone in an adjustable vent mount. And it also works wonderfully with Siri and the maps app to get you from A to B as the voice directions also come through the stereo it also works when playing music as it just dims the music to give you the directions. So basiclaly for a £5 adapter and using your iPhone you get a full multimedia, Tom Tom and hands free system :)

You can see in this pic, my mount and my cables coming under the stereo by the gear stick.

Ok I tried pressing the CD button a couple of times yesterday, I switched from media player to CD (that was really useful as I never knew it could do that, I thought you had to cycle through 'source' every time!)

But it never showed Aux, does this mean my HU wont be able to use this cable?

I'm fairly sure just adding the cable to the back wont make it magically appear, one can dream though :(

This has got everything you need. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-GRAN...-FOR-MP3-iPOD-iPHONE-BLACKBERRY-/160980740500

You won't be able to use your steering wheel controls with it, but it's a really simple 2 minute job to take the head unit out with the provided keys, then just plug in the aux cable that you can run around the back of the head unit and into the glove box.
