Hi, My car has been stood unfortunately for the last 3 weeks due to be my soft tissue damage on my ankle and I have drove the car the car today and it started first time no problem. But when I turn the steering to at low speeds I can hear a popping noise, quite intermittent, car had been parked up on a kerb on the near/passenger side could this be anything to do with it?

Thanks for any help in advance :)

Drop links pop.

Although tbf any component in the suspension can make strange noises when something isn't right. Take it to a garage and you will get a proper diagnosis. :)

EDIT: Actually, turning wheel at low speeds...do it whilst standing still, it could be your top mounts have siezed...sounds like a mattress spring?

Ill have to have a look then when im in the car next seems to be really intermitent I expect it to happen it doesnt, might best of taking wheel off and having a good look underneath?

Maybe. Obviously if it is the top mounts that won't make a difference. Try it when you are sitting still. Turn the wheel slowly, if you hear the springy noise then it is definitely them that have failed.

Get a mate to turn the wheel for you and put your hand on your front springs one at a time (use a bit of care so you dont get your fingers trapped)

the springs should move smoothly and evenly as the wheel is turned

if you feel it "jump" at the same time as the pop or boing its your turret top bearing race thats filled with muck grime and water and died...

its a fairly big job to do at home (though not for a garage) with the added danger to the un mechanical savvy of having to remove the coil spring which can cause serious injury if done wrong.....

Ill give it a check then when its light tomorrow, ive had both top mounts off before when I changed the coil springs so I can do that would just need to buy the top mount seen then on eBay genuine part for £25, so could be a cheap fix hopefully.
Thanks for your help will have a look tomorrow :)

Just want to thank sean for making this topic, although I have posted a topic about the same problem, it seems the way he has worded his has got different responses, all of which tick the box for my problem.

So thanks sean, and thanks to the rest for replies!
