Hi all,

During cold weather i noticed that my grande punto is taking longer to start. If i but a battery cover/blanket, will this help?? are there other things that i can do for it to start without hard starting??

How old is the battery? It is probably better to bite the bullet and replace it, rather than trying to nurse a weak battery along. Weak batteries can cause all sorts of odd electrical errors on the gp so, imo, not worth it.

If you insist on keeping the original battery, pushing the clutch in whilst starting saves the starter having to spin half the gearbox; but the difference is small.

Would help if we know what engine it is, petrol or diesel etc.

The battery is only one year old so i think it is still good. The engine is petrol 1.2 2006.

Blanket won't make a difference, probably not even related to your battery the starting issues tbh.

first get the battery tested then if its still struggling to start get the earth strap tested for resistance (causes charging issues and starting problems)

Hi Andy. Do you mean the earth wire which is connected to the battery, by earth strap ?? If not, where is this earth strap located and what is the typical resistance ??

it runs from the battery to the left chassis leg then onto the gear box


stick the probe onto the battery end and to the gear box lug and wiggle it any noticeable fluctuation you have a problem


it is fairly common on the gp's
