Hi,
I have a GP 06 plate, ever since I bought it (1 year ago) it has always pulled to the left, when on the motorway I have to pull right all the time to keep straight. When I went for a service (independent garage) I asked them if they could do an alignment on the steering, and when I returned to pick up the car they told me that they couldn't fix the alignment as they thought there was a problem with the EPS. To clarify how it feels when driving or stopped, it is much lighter turning left (the side it pulls to) but you need almost twice the force to turn right. I have never had a failure of the EPS or Hydraulic steering.

Does anyone have a clue to what could be at fault? Could it just need a calibration through an ELM327? Refurbished steering column? Another garage for opinion on realignment?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

If it's lighter turning one way than the other while stationary, it's likely to be the common column torque sensor issue where it goes slightly out of calibration and "thinks" a constant load is being already applied in one direction. Often if you hold it in a particular place it will 'hum' or vibrate.

Only cure is a new/refurbed column.

Christ, have they still not sorted that issue out? I had it on my 2001 Punto but never got it fixed because I traded it in.

I suppose if they don't fix that fault it's money for them when it decides to break... :bang:

D4nny8oy,

Thanks for that info, I am going to go outside and try that now.
Do you know anything about ECUTESTING.COM? They say they have refurbished ones for £240 or £150 to refurb mine. If anyone knows anything about their refurbed steering columns please let me know.

How hard is it to remove the old one and replace it? (I am pretty handy with cars, just never done a steering column....)

Thanks
